A suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerilla was killed by the military after his group was caught setting up land mines in Davao Oriental Monday morning. | |||
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Eastern Mindanao Command Spokesperson Col. Leopoldo Galon said a firefight erupted between members of the Army’s 6th Scout Ranger Command and some 70 NPA guerillas in Pantuyan, Caraga town at around 8:30 a.m. | |||
Galon said the clash began after the military caught the communist rebels planting land mines in the area. | |||
The firefight lasted for about an hour. The military recovered two M16 rifles from the rebels. | |||
Bomb sniffing dogs were deployed to clear the area of land mines. | |||
