KORONADAL CITY, Nov 25 (PIA) –- The Department of Science and Technology – 12’s (DOST-12) quality management system (QMS) recently received a confirmation that is has conformed to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2008. | |||
DOST-12 first acquired the prestigious certification three years ago. | |||
On November 10-11, the Certification International Philippines, Inc. (CIPI) conducted an audit of the regional science and technology department and found it has consistently adhered to the rigid ISO 9001:2008 standards. | |||
Dr. Zenaida P. Hadji Raof Laidan, DOST-12 regional director, said they are continually improving the regional office’s QMS, including the four Provincial Science and Technology Centers, to comply, if not surpass, the standards set by ISO 9001:2008. | |||
The CIPI reassessment covered DOST-12’s business processes such as the 1) Provision of Technology Transfer Services, 2) S&T Promotion, 3) S&T Information Dissemination; and 4) S&T Scholarships. | |||
The audit also included the following areas: maintenance, procurement, competence training and awareness, internal audit, corrective/preventive actions, and management review validation. | |||
The ISO 9001:2008 specifies requirements for a QMS where an organization needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product and services that meet customer and applicable regulatory and statutory satisfaction. | |||
Moreover, it aims to continually improve client satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement. | |||
The ISO Certification renewal is not an outright privilege; it requires an annual surveillance audit and a more thorough reassessment audit every three years. | |||
Engr. Joselito C. Soler, CIPI head of certification, led the team that conducted the reassessment. | |||
CIPI is one of the best ISO 9001:2008 standard certifiers, both in the country and abroad, duly accredited by the Philippine Accreditation Board (PAB) and the United Kingdom Accreditation System (UKAS). | |||
Dr. Laidan described the latest certification as a validation of DOST-12’s accomplishments in its continued implementation of the international QMS standard as an instrument to further enhance the office’s competitiveness and to meet the needs and expectations of the people. | |||
During the exit conference with the CIPI team, Director Laidan acknowledged the efforts of all the staff for their exemplary performances that led to the latest ISO 9001:2008 certification. | |||
She encouraged everybody to continually improve the effectiveness of the agency’s QMS to attain its objective of providing outstanding services at all times. | |||
“Let us continue doing our tasks and responsibilities better. We must go beyond the expectations of our clients in satisfying their needs. Teamwork is the key that will lead us towards the achievement of our objectives in contributing to the improvement of the socio-economic welfare not only in Region 12 but the country as a whole,” she said.
