KORONADAL CITY, Nov. 21 (PIA) -- An Automated Rain Gauge (ARG) will be installed in the last quarter of the year in region 12. | |||
This was disclosed by Department of Science and Technology (DOST) XII director Zenaida Hadji Raof Laidan who said that the ARG, one of the four kinds of flood monitoring instruments, is an instrument which is equipped with sensors that can gather and record the amount of rainfall over a set period of time, wind velocity, air temperature and air humidity. | |||
The other vital flood monitoring instruments, Laidan continued, are automatic water level gauge, manual rain gauge and manual water level gauge. | |||
The DOST XII director said the Department of Science and Technology has been beefing up the Philippine Real Time Environment Data Acquisition and Interpretation for Climate-related Tragedy (PREDICT). | |||
PREDICT, she elaborated, is a nationwide system that is meant to complement the existing observation capability of DOST-PAG-ASA. | |||
Recently, three automated weather stations (AWS) which are capable of monitoring weather situations in the region and generate particular data on rainfall were installed in the region.. | |||
The AWS are located in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat, one at the General Santos City Airport and another at the Cotabato City's People's Palace (City Hall). | |||
Laidan explained that the said AWS are equipped with sensors capable of measuring weather parameters, wind speed, rain amount, duration, and intensity.(OTSUDARIA/PIA 12) | |||
