LAOAG CITY – Owing to the surging prices of fuel and other basic commodities, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) is set to conduct a public consultation on March 29 in Vigan City to determine whether there is a need for a wage hike in the Ilocos Region. Evelyn Ramos, regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment, confirmed this on Friday as she reported this will be the first of a series of public consultations in the region. “As of the moment, there is no formal petition from the labor sector about the wage increase but the board will be conducting a wage review just the same,” she said.
ZAMBOANGA CITY – The City Health Office (CHO) has deployed a mobile team to intensify its vaccination program to attain mass population protection against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) soon. Ma. Christine Lim, health education and promotion officer, said Saturday the mobile vaccination is another strategy innovated by the city government to reach out to eligible populations and boost its Covid-19 vaccination. DAVAO CITY -- Approaching the end of his 6-year term, President Rodrigo Duterte has fulfilled another milestone as he inaugurated Friday evening two medical facilities furnished with modern cancer treatment and diagnostic equipment worth PHP893 million. The facilities--the Cancer Diagnostic Institute Building and the Cancer Treatment Facility Building--are located in the government-run Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) and have been identified as priority projects of the Office of the President.
ZAMBOANGA CITY – A leader of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was killed in a clash with Scout Ranger troopers in Basilan province, a top military official announced Saturday. Brig. Gen. Domingo Gobway, Joint Task Force (JTF)-Basilan commander, identified the slain ASG leader as Razmil Jannatul alias Abu Khubayb. Gobway said Jannatul was killed in a clash Friday afternoon in Sitio Center, Barangay Baiwas in Sumisip town, Basilan. Gobway said the troops of the 5th Scout Ranger Battalion were on combat operation when they clashed with a group of ASG bandits led by Jannatul.
