COTABATO CITY – The government’s campaign to reunite communist rebels with their families and the mainstream society continues to gain ground as 11 New Peoples’ Army rebels have surrendered in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat. Kalamansig Mayor Rolando Garcia welcomed the former rebels on Friday during the surrender rites, providing them initially with livelihood assistance and a sack of rice. “We welcome them as the government is doing everything for their reintegration into mainstream society,” Garcia said in a media statement. “They made the right decision to surrender because an armed struggle has been proven ineffective,” he added.
LAOAG CITY – The state-run Mariano Marcos State University College of Medicine (MMSU-COM) has achieved another 100-percent passing rate in the Physician Licensure Examination (PLE), the university’s strategic communication office said on Saturday. For the fourth consecutive time since the Ilocos Norte's first medical school was established on June 16, 2015, its medical graduates delivered a 100-percent passing rate in the March 2022 exam, said MMSU president Dr. Shirley Agrupis on Saturday, as she lauded the 11 new doctors produced by the university.

COTABATO CITY -  The Ministry of the Interior and Local Government in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MILG-BARMM) has turned over a PHP6.25 million police station in the coastal town of Datu Blah Sinsuat in Maguindanao, an official said Friday. Lawyer Naguib Sinarimbo, MILG minister and BARMM spokesperson, said the three-story police station was funded through the Bangsamoro Appropriation Act (BAA) of 2020. It was inaugurated Thursday. “The building is situated in Barangay Pura, an elevated area of DBS (Datu Blah Sinsuat) facing the Moro gulf,” Sinarimbo told reporters here in an interview.
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Army's 58th Infantry Battalion (58IB) on Saturday said that three rebels of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) were killed in a recent encounter in Claveria town, Misamis Oriental. In a statement, Lt. Col. Ricky Canatoy, commanding officer of the 58IB, said the 10-minute firefight happened between government forces and around 10 armed rebels of GF Huawei of Sub-regional Committee 1 (SRC1) of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) on Friday.
