LOILO CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here will set up isolated voting precincts for voters showing coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) symptoms on May 9, election day. City Election Assistant II Jonathan Sayno, in an interview Thursday, said they are coordinating with the schools to identify a room as an “isolated” voting precinct. The election will proceed regardless of the alert level classification of the local government unit and registered voters can cast their votes regardless of their vaccination status, Sayno said.
CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan – Bulacan was ranked 10th among the country's most competitive provinces by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI). Governor Daniel Fernando, in a statement on Friday, said this is the third consecutive year for the province to receive such recognition. Bulacan placed eighth in 2020 and ninth in 2019, showing a huge improvement for the province that ranked 49th in 2018, 48th in 2016, and 44th in 2015. BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Benjamin Magalong has requested the national Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to downgrade the city from Alert Level 3 community quarantine status to Alert Level 2. “Nagrequest na ako, nag-usap na kami ni (Department of the Interior and Local Government) Usec. [Epimaco] Densing, tinatapos na lang namin yung ating (I have already requested. I have talked to Usec. Densing and we are just finishing our) position paper although I already sent a word to the IATF thru Usec Densing that we will already request for Alert Level 2,” Magalong said in a media interview on Thursday.
ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here Friday launched Operation Baklas and started removing campaign materials put up outside the designated common poster areas. Joining the Comelec in the conduct of the drive were the Zamboanga City Police, City Engineer’s Office, and the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office. Lawyer Stephen Roy Cañete, 1st District election officer, urged candidates and their supporters to abide by the rules on the posting of campaign materials. Cañete said candidates should also observe the allowed sizes of campaign posters and materials.
