ILOILO CITY – Four new provincial police directors formally assumed their post in Western Visayas following a turnover ceremony Monday afternoon as part of the preparations for the May 2022 national and local elections. Police Brig. Gen. Flynn E. Dongbo, Director of the Police Regional Office Western Visayas (PRO6), in his message said the reshuffle of commanders is implemented nationwide as directed by Philippine National Police chief, Gen. DAVAO CITY – A former leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) described Menandro Villanueva alias “Ka Bok” as a slaughterer of the poor and killer of freedom. In a statement Thursday, Joy "Ka Amihan" Saguino, former secretary of Guerilla Front 20 under Sub-regional Committee 1 of the NPA’s Southern Mindanao Region, said the people of Davao Region and Mindanao are witnesses to the reign of terror and violence that Villanueva has planted for five decades. Villanueva, who had several warrants of arrests for multiple murders, double frustrated murders, arson, robbery with intimidation, and rebellion, among others, was killed in an encounter with government troops in Davao de Oro on January 5.

'''DA eyes adlai, strawberry farming as emerging crops for NorMin'''<br>
TACLOBAN CITY – The Southern Leyte provincial government has banned the transport of lumber outside the province to expedite rebuilding activities after the devastation by Typhoon Odette last December. Governor Damian Mercado issued an executive order on Monday, prohibiting anyone to transport lumber for use outside Southern Leyte. “The massive volume of fallen trees can be utilized by the local government units of Southern Leyte in making it into lumber to be distributed to families with totally and partially damaged houses so that rebuilding of houses can commence,” Mercado said in his directive.
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Agriculture Region 10 (DA-10) has seen a potential in adlai and strawberry as emerging crops in Northern Mindanao that can be sold in mainstream markets in the future. During a media forum on Thursday, DA-10 Technical Director Carlota Madriaga said adlai, also referred by indigenous peoples as "agglay," is easy to produce even through organic production technology, and it grows in any places regardless of climate and soil conditions. "In the time of the pandemic (when it started in 2020), we have established the Adlai Development Program where we train farmers in planting adlai, and help them in the processing and marketing of products," he said.
