CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga A total of 169 checkpoints are set up with 1,300 police personnel deployed in Central Luzon to strictly implement the 150-day gun ban as the election period began Sunday.Brig. Gen. Matthew Baccay, Police Regional Office 3 director, said Sunday the public must cooperate with authorities at checkpoints and reiterated they will observe policies and procedures. At checkpoints, motorists are advised to slow down, dim their headlights, turn on their cabin lights, and answer promptly if asked by authorities. “I have also reminded our personnel to b e courteous to motorists and to adhere to general guidelines prescribed in our Revised Police Operational Procedures,” he added.
SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique The indigenous peoples (IPs) in the municipality of Tobias Fornier’s Barangay Igcalawagan received 14 cattle and a carabao as livelihood assistance on January 4. “The IP beneficiaries are members of the Pantad Ati Tribe Association in Tobias Fornier,” Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Antique provincial information officer Donnabelle Baldonado said in an interview Monday. The assistance was in response to the proposal submitted by Barangay Igcalawagan Chairperson Rolly Noble and Ati chieftain Edna Pikuan for the cattle-fattening and carabao-raising projects from the Office of Congresswoman Loren Legarda that were endorsed to the DOLE.

DUMAGUETE CITY – The province of Negros Oriental has identified nine election “hotspots” or areas of concern leading to the May 9, 2022 national and local polls. Lawyer Eddie Aba, Provincial Election Supervisor of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), told the Philippine News Agency in an interview that the military and the police submitted the potential hotspots based on parameters used for the classification of areas of concern. “The Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines are the ones in a position to identify, determine, validate, and confirm whether these areas should be tagged as election hotspots and thus, need additional security and other measures to ensure safe, peaceful, and orderly conduct of the elections,” Aba said in mixed English and Cebuano.
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The local government here started the new year with more than a million doses of various vaccine brands already administered to combat the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). Data from the City Health Insurance Office released on Monday showed 1,001,384 doses have been injected as of January 2. Of the total, 440,339 were for second doses and 15,275 for booster or additional shots.
