'''Omicron patient tagged in CDO not yet home: exec'''.<br>
BUTUAN CITY The distribution of relief packs in the different municipalities in Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte remained unhampered as support continued to grow from different sectors, both in the government and private sectors. Surigao del Norte First District Representative Francisco Jose Matugas II, in a statement Friday, said the number of relief packs delivered to distressed residents in the island has increased since December 30 last month. From 81,000 relief packs on December 30, the number of deliveries has doubled to 190,000 relief packs as of Friday, Matugas reported. “We have built more fluid supply links to sites hard to reach, such as Socorro. The distribution rate there has moved up from December’s 83 percent to the recent rate of 202 percent,” Matugas said.
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - The patient who tested positive for the Omicron variant of the coronavirus diseases 2019 (Covid-19) has not yet arrived in the city despite being tagged living here. This was based on the follow-up investigation and tracing by the City Health Office (CHO), Dr. Teodoro Yu Jr., medical officer, said during a press briefing Saturday. "The mobile phone number she gave (in the registration) was her aunt's because she has no local sim card, and the address she gave was her aunt's who resides in the city," he said. According to data from the Department of Health (DOH), the patient is a 20-year-old college student who arrived in the Philippines on Dec. 21, 2021. On December 26, she tested positive for Covid-19 while in isolation in Manila.

'''Villanueva’s death a blow to NPA: Eastmincom'''<br>
'''Comelec to set up gun ban checkpoints in Zambo City'''<br>
DAVAO CITY – The death of the most wanted leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) was a major blow to the group and left a huge void in their ranks, the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) said Friday. In a statement, Lt. Gen. Greg Almerol, commander of Eastmincom, said the death of Menandro Villanueva alias Bok was a major breakthrough as it will take the NPA some time to replace him. Villanueva was killed by government troops in an encounter at Barangay Libudon, Mabini, Davao de Oro on Wednesday evening (January 5).
ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec), together with the security forces, is setting up fixed checkpoints in strategic places at the start of the gun ban here on January 9. The gun ban is pursuant to Comelec Resolution Numbers 10728 and 10741 promulgated on Nov. 10, 2021 and Dec. 16, 2021, respectively. Lawyer Stephen Roy Cañete, first district election officer, said Saturday the fixed checkpoints will be set up in main thoroughfares leading to the city proper to ensure compliance with the gun ban. “Random mobile checkpoints will be also conducted,” Cañete added.
