'''Distribution of relief packs in Siargao unhampered'''.<br>
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - For some residents of Northern Mindanao, life has been a struggle until the government's "Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program” (4Ps) came along and made things a lot bearable for them. This was the common thread that tied together the more than 1,000 entries in the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 10’s (Northern Mindanao) essay writing contest last month. The essay that bagged the top prize, penned by a former student-farmer, Vince Jamiralin of Kalilangan, Bukidnon, talked about how the economic slowdown due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic initially took its toll on his mother’s flower business.
BUTUAN CITY – The distribution of relief packs in the different municipalities in Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte remained unhampered as support continued to grow from different sectors, both in the government and private sectors. Surigao del Norte First District Representative Francisco Jose Matugas II, in a statement Friday, said the number of relief packs delivered to distressed residents in the island has increased since December 30 last month. From 81,000 relief packs on December 30, the number of deliveries has doubled to 190,000 relief packs as of Friday, Matugas reported. “We have built more fluid supply links to sites hard to reach, such as Socorro. The distribution rate there has moved up from December’s 83 percent to the recent rate of 202 percent,” Matugas said.

'''Cebuanos’ faith in Sto. Niño prevails amid Covid-19, ‘Odette’'''<br>
'''Villanueva’s death a blow to NPA: Eastmincom'''<br>
CEBU CITY – Typhoon Odette may have destroyed the gains in terms of economy and well-being of the Cebuanos amid the ongoing fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), but their deep devotion to the Sto. Niño and their tenacity to face all forms of adversities have motivated them to move forward and be more resilient against crises. “Tough times never last, tough people do,” Mayor Michael Rama, quoting book author Robert Schuller, said in his New Year’s message on Tuesday as he enumerated the city's gains in terms of economy and health amid the pandemic. Rama said the city has celebrated victories against the pandemic after it successfully contained the surge in Covid-19 in October 2021.
DAVAO CITY – The death of the most wanted leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) was a major blow to the group and left a huge void in their ranks, the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) said Friday. In a statement, Lt. Gen. Greg Almerol, commander of Eastmincom, said the death of Menandro Villanueva alias Bok was a major breakthrough as it will take the NPA some time to replace him. Villanueva was killed by government troops in an encounter at Barangay Libudon, Mabini, Davao de Oro on Wednesday evening (January 5).
