BACOLOD CITY – The number of fatalities in the wake of Typhoon Odette in Negros Occidental has increased to 40, figures released by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 6 (Western Visayas) on Thursday showed. “There are 44 reported deaths but only 40 are confirmed or with supporting documents,” the OCD-6 said based on the official report from the Management of the Dead and Missing Cluster under the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) 6. Figures also showed 19 others were still missing while 59 were injured. Of the 40 casualties, 18 were recorded in Sipalay City while eight were in Kabankalan City. The rest were reported in Moises Padilla, with three; San Carlos City, Candoni, Cauayan, two each; and La Carlota City, Binalbagan, Ilog, Isabela, and Manapla, one each.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) stressed this anew after continuous reports that some private companies and government agencies refuse to recognize the PhilID. “Your Philsys national identification card is valid and can be used for any legal transactions. This is a memo from the Philippine Identification System of the Philippine Statistics Authority that mandates that your PhilSys national ID should be accepted for customer identification and verification in any bank transactions in the Philippines. No institutions or establishments should refuse your PhilSys national ID card or they will be penalized,the PSA posted on December 13.
BUTUAN CITY – The number of active coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the Caraga region has continued to decline, the regional health office said Thursday. In a report, the Department of Health (DOH) 13 (Caraga) said only five new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the region on Wednesday. One case each was reported in Butuan City, Bayugan City, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte, and Agusan del Sur. The provinces of Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, as well as the cities of Surigao, Tandag, and Bislig recorded zero Covid-19 cases on the same day, the DOH-13 added.
