CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – About 3,000 policemen in Central Luzon have been deployed to beef up security in the region’s transport terminals and leisure areas where people are expected to gather for the holidays. Brig. Gen. Matthew Baccay, Police Regional Office (PRO) 3 (Central Luzon) director, said on Saturday he ordered all city and provincial police directors to continuously conduct police-focused operations and sustain the level of alertness and vigilance. The policemen have been deployed to man assistance desks in transport terminals, commercial establishments, and places of worship starting December 16. This is not only to ensure public safety and order but also to provide public assistance, in collaboration with other agencies and volunteer organizations, Baccay added.
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Northern Mindanao (RDRRMC-10) said Typhoon Odette killed five people, displaced a total of 53,340 individuals, and left an estimated PHP81 million worth of damage to property in the region. In a report released Sunday evening, December 19, the total number of individuals displaced came from 15,086 families and 242 barangays, with the province of Misamis Oriental having the highest number with 33,435 individuals or 9,185 families from 27 barangays, which included this city. The RDRRMC-10 also recorded damage to houses, both partially and totally, with an estimated value of PHP1,132,000, while damage to infrastructure in San Isidro and Batangan Dike in Valencia City, Bukidnon was estimated at PHP80.1 million.

BUTUAN CITY – The airlifting of food and medical supplies has begun to help the distressed residents of Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte, one of the areas devastated by Typhoon Odette. In his Facebook post on Saturday, Surigao del Norte 1st District Rep. Francisco Jose Matugas said an airplane carrying five tons of food, including medical supplies, and a team of doctors has left Manila heading for the island. “We expect a regular delivery of five tons of food per day through air transport,” Matugas added. He also confirmed that President Rodrigo Duterte would visit the severely-battered island on Saturday.
DAVAO CITY – No new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) have been recorded in three provinces and one city in the Davao Region, its regional Department of Health (DOH-11) said Sunday evening. Davao City, and the provinces of Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, and Davao de Oro were among those that logged zero Covid-19 cases in the latest case bulletin released by the DOH-11 on December 19. The DOH-11 reported that five new cases of Covid-19 were recorded, one in Davao del Norte and four in Davao Occidental, bringing the total number of active cases to 665. There were also 21 new recoveries reported -- 19 are from Davao de Oro, and two from Davao Oriental.
