DUMAGUETE CITY – The Diocesan Electoral Board (DEB) of the Diocese of Dumaguete will be fielding volunteers to observe the conduct of the Commission on Elections' (Comelec) mock polls on Dec. 29. Msgr. Julius Perpetuo S. Heruela, DEB convenor, said on Sunday that volunteers from the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), which is a member of the electoral board, will be assigned to the four barangays in Negros Oriental where the mock polls will be conducted -- Balugo and Taclobo in this capital city and Poblacion and Mayabon in Zamboanguita town. Only volunteers in these villages will serve, he said.
DAVAO CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) in Region 11 reported on Sunday night eight new cases of Covid-19, with 27 more recoveries bringing down the region’s active cases to 754. In a statement, the DOH-11 said the 99,786 total recoveries correspond to a 95.6-percent recovery rate out of the 104,370 confirmed cases logged since the pandemic was declared in March last year. DAGUPAN CITY – The Department of Agriculture (DA) turned over on Saturday the PHP10.5-million technology business incubator project for oyster production to seven local government units (LGUs) in Pangasinan. The project beneficiaries are the towns of Anda, Bani, Bolinao, Binmaley, San Fabian, Sual, and Alaminos City. In an interview, DA Undersecretary for Agri-industrialization and Fisheries, Cheryl Marie Caballero, said the AquaNegosyo Technology Incubator project is a mechanism to assist organizations, cooperatives, or individuals engaged in the production of oysters.
ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) has launched manhunt operation to arrest the two suspects who shot and wounded a policeman in this southern port city over the weekend. Col. Rexmel Reyes, ZCPO director, said in a statement Monday that one of the subjects of the manhunt operation was identified as Ian Rodriguez while the other one remained unidentified. Reyes identified the wounded policeman as Staff Sgt. Joseph Robles of the ZCPO’s Station 5, who was shot and wounded by the suspects around 4:40 p.m. Saturday in Purok 3, Barangay Lumbangan, this city.
