On June 30, 2009, the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. IX, together with other government agencies through the KALAHI Program, actively participated in a vital undertaking carrying the theme "Ayuda de Presidente Gloria para na Limpapa" which provided various government services / assistance and job opportunities to local folks of Barangay Limpapa. Various government service providers under the stewardship of Asec Crisanto de La Cruz, Presidential Assistant for Western Mindanao, flooded in not just commitment but outright services and assistance that will help alleviate the plight of poor families in Barangay Limpapa. Limpapa is the last barangay at the west coast of Zamboanga City and is considered as one of the depressed areas in the peninsula.

The whole day activity had been very successful as government services have been made available instantly to the local residents. Specifically, DOST-IX provided the following services / assistance: 1) Training on candle making ; 2) Training on banana chips making ; 3) Information Campaign on DOST Undergraduate Scholarships; 4) Lecture on Earthquake and Disaster Preparedness; and 5) Provision of library materials to the Limpapa Elementary School which include 26 volumes of Illustrated Science and Technology Encyclopedia and 5 volumes of The Science Library.

The participants of the two (2) technology trainings were some 25 parents, women sector and out-of-school youths, while some 60 fourth year high school students of Limpapa National High School attended the seminar on availing DOST scholarships and IEC campaign on earthquake and disaster preparedness conducted by Philvolcs representative.
