ANGELES CITY, Pampanga, Aug. 1 (PNA)-- The city government here, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has launched the city’s first Tech4Ed facility in an effort to expand access to Information and Communications Technology (ICT) services, learning resources and opportunities for entrepreneurship and employment.
Tech4ED which stands for “Technology for Education, to gain Employment, train Entrepreneurs towards Economic Development”, is a project that aims to expand free ICT services to more Filipinos thus giving every citizen an equal opportunity of learning and employment.
"Tech4Ed complements our existing campaigns and programs that give every Angeleños an equal access to avenues and opportunities for learning,” Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan said.
"Now, even the underprivileged sector of our community can freely access and make use of this facility in assistance to their continuing education,” Pamintuan added.
Engineer Danilo De Leon Jr., focal ICT of Tech4Ed, said the key services of the project include e-GovServ for government transactions such as applications for birth certificate, driver’s license and clearance from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), among others; e-EduSkills for learning on demand, including the Alternative Learning System (ALS) and courses under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA); and, e-Assist, which aims to enhance digital and financial literacy.
Agnes Gomez, officer-in-charge of the Angeles City Library, said that Tech4Ed Center is accessible to all the Angeleños who seek assistance with government, learning, and digital matters.
The city library has three available computers which can be used on a first-come, first-served system.
Meanwhile, the DOST eyes more than 1,000 cyber education hubs in the country with public libraries to house the said facilities.
