A hat trick of holidays soon, including Cebu’s 447th anniv

CEBUANOS will mark the 447th founding anniversary of Cebu Province with a non-working holiday on Aug. 6.

Even though Malacañang has yet to issue a special order for this date, Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) 7 Director Exequiel Sarcauga said it might be released within the week.

Based on Republic Act 8952, Aug. 6 every year is declared as a special non-working holiday in the Province of Cebu.

The declaration also extends to highly urbanized cities such as Cebu City and Mandaue City and to component cities such as Lapu-Lapu, Danao and Toledo.

Sarcauga said that aside from Aug. 6, Aug. 21, or Ninoy Aquino Day, will also be declared as a special non-working holiday nationwide.

Heroes

Aug. 29, or National Heroes Day, will be a regular holiday.

Based on the Labor Code, an employee who works during a non-working holiday by virtue of a special declaration is entitled to a premium pay of 30 percent.

An employee who works during a regular holiday earns extra pay equivalent to his regular rate.

For the Province, its founding anniversary celebration will have different features, one of which is the holding of an Agro Fair at the Capitol Compound.
