A TOP official of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said the agency has released more than P21-million worth of livelihood projects to nine local government units (LGUs) in Zamboanga Peninsula.

DTI regional director Sitti Amina Jain said the recipients of the assistance are the municipalities of Ramon Magsaysay in Zamboanga del Sur, and Sibuco in Zamboanga del Norte.

The assistance aimed to finance 12 livelihood projects, which are under this year's Bottom-Up-Budgeting (BUB) program, intended for the development of identified industries or businesses that provide local jobs, Jain said.

Jain turned over the checks worth P7.45 million to Ramon Magsayasay Mayor Leonilo Borinaga Sr. and Sibuco Mayor Norbideiri Edding during the year-end assessment and planning held last week.

She said Ramon Magsaysay, Zamboanga del Sur, has received the biggest livelihood assistance this year as DTI approved three project proposals amounting to P7 million.

She said Ramon Magsaysay's projects include oil refinery facility (P3.4 million), integrated coconut processing facility (P3 million), and lemon oil production project (P600,000).

She said the agency also approved Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte's proposal on its P5.4-million worth of livelihood skills training/rural micro enterprise development program.

Dipolog City, the capital of Zamboanga del Norte, also proposed for the same project worth P3 million, Jain said.

The other projects include that of Sominot, Zamboanga del Sur for equipment on production of coco wine, vinegar, sugar, and nata de coco amounting to P2.4 million, and Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur's for its training, marketing, and product development of processed sweet kaong worth P700,000.

Jain said Sergio Osmeña, Zamboanga del Norte also received P900,000 as assistance for its One Town-One Product Express Store and another P600,000 for its Pancit Noodle Processing and Facility.

According to the regional director, Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte received P500,000 for its pancit-making equipment that will benefit five Women's Association located in the villages of Guibo, Diongan, Datagan, Macasing, and Sayaw.

She said Mabuhay in Zamboanga Sibugay received P500,000 worth of support in the form of Shared Service Facility (SSF), bringing the total funds released to P21.4 million.

The official said this year's livelihood assistance is greater than that of P10.5 million released by the DTI last year.
