Pangasinan Province - Archived News

Wars of ancient history were about possessions, territory, power, control, family, betrayal, lover's quarrel, politics and sometimes religion.

But we are in the Modern era and supposedly more educated and enlightened .

Think about this. Don't just brush off these questions.

  • Why is RELIGION still involved in WARS? Isn't religion supposed to be about PEACE?
  • Ask yourself; What religion always campaign to have its religious laws be accepted as government laws, always involved in wars and consistently causing WARS, yet insists that it's a religion of peace?

WHY??

There are only two kinds of people who teach tolerance:
  1. The Bullies. They want you to tolerate them so they can continue to maliciously deprive you. Do not believe these bullies teaching tolerance, saying that it’s the path to prevent hatred and prejudice.
  2. The victims who are waiting for the right moment to retaliate. They can’t win yet, so they tolerate.

Dietary supplement is a product that contains vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, enzymes, and/or other ingredients intended to supplement the diet. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has special labeling requirements for dietary supplements and treats them as foods, not drugs.

Manufacturers and distributors of dietary supplements and dietary ingredients are prohibited from marketing products that are adulterated or misbranded. That means that these firms are responsible for evaluating the safety and labeling of their products before marketing to ensure that they meet all the requirements of DSHEA and FDA regulations.

Pangasinan restocks rivers with tilapia fingerlings

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Philippines – The provincial government of Pangasinan continues to replenish communal bodies of water in the province with marine species, particularly tilapia, in line with its two-pronged program of aggressive environment protection and rehabilitation and livelihood promotion for local fisherfolk.

Some two million fingerlings have been released so far into more than 250 communal waterways throughout Pangasinan since 2007 when Gov. Amado Espino Jr. assumed the gubernatorial post.

Dalisay Moya, officer-in-charge of the provincial agricultural office, said the tilapia seeding project has benefited thousands of marginal fishermen in the province.

This month alone, three fingerling dispersal activities were conducted in the towns of Mangaldan, Sta. Maria, and Sison.

Last June 17, about 25,000 tilapia fingerlings were set free into the Angalacan and Old Mangaldan rivers covering 11 barangays in Mangaldan town, while 40,000 fingerlings were released in certain waterways covering seven barangays in Sta. Maria.

Another 40,000 tilapia fingerlings were also released in communal rivers covering six barangays in Sison town last June 21.

Moya said the project was meant to increase the number of tilapia breeders in the communal waterways for residents to enjoy a “bountiful supply of fish in our rivers and give additional food for the villagers in the affected barangays.”

Moya said the program is part of Espino’s environmental advocacy aimed at protecting and rehabilitating rivers to make them more beneficial for the people.

She said Espino has cited the fish stock enhancement project for complementing his flagship river cleanup program entitled “Ilog Ko, Bilayen Ko Tan Aroen Ko.”

Gov. Espino ties up with Red Cross and DepEd for disaster preparedness in schools

Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. signs the Memorandum of Partnership Agreement between the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), Department of Education (DepEd) and the Provincial Government of Pangasinan for the implementation of disaster preparedness in schools which has high vulnerability to natural and human induced disasters. The PRC Pangasinan Chapter has identified 19 schools in the municipalities of Aguilar, Calasiao and Sta. Barbara as the pilot beneficiaries of the project which aims to build resilient communities to natural disasters. Among the signatories are (starting from left, seated) PRC-Pangasinan Chapter Board of Directors Chairperson Dr. Vivencio V. Villaflor, MD. and DepEd Division of Pangasinan I Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Aurora T. Domingo. The partnership agreement was signed in the presence of (starting from left, standing) PRC-Pangasinan Chapter Administrator Floramae S. Magalong, Aguilar Mayor Eduardo T. The provincial government has forged partnership with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and the Department of Education (DepEd) for the improvement of the Disaster Preparedness and Response Mechanisms in schools throughout Pangasinan.

This developed after Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. entered into a Memorandum of Partnership Agreement with the two agencies last June 27 at the Governor’s Office here.

Said program, which started September last year and will last until April 2012, will involve all local government units (LGUs), schools and other involved sectors in the provincial, municipal and barangay levels.

On the part of the PRC, said agency will provide capability-building activities to 75 teachers on School Disaster Risk Reduction with first aid and basic life support training for six days, mobilization activities and provision of first aid kits along with the distribution of information-education materials.

The DepEd, on the other hand, will utilize their teachers and students for the planned project and sustain the program activities while the provincial government will provide manpower and necessary counterpart during the implementation of the project.

With this, the PRC identified 19 schools as pilot beneficiaries of the program which are chosen due to their high vulnerability to natural and human induced disasters. Pilot beneficiaries include schools located in the towns of Aguilar, Calasiao and Sta. Barbara, all flood-prone areas.

Governor Espino earlier said that the provincial government fully supports such program stating that his administration has set its sight to implement program relative to disaster control and management such as the launching of the long term flood mitigation project that can help avoid the occurrence of risks during natural calamities.

'Tuko' trading fever in Pangasinan

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Philippines – The illegal trading of tokay gecko, a nocturnal arboreal gecko locally known as “tuko,” has now reached this province after shaking up Mindanao the past several months because of foreigners buying the animal for up to P100,000 a piece.

Youngsters and farmers in Calasiao, San Carlos, Urbiztondo and nearby municipalities are now engaged in hunting for tokay gecko in coconut plantations where they mostly frequent.

Recently, Pangasinan Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office Leduina Co. said that her office has been monitoring reports on illegal trading of tuko in this province.

Earlier, DENR Undersecretary for Field Operations Ernesto Adobo Jr. ordered DENR provincial offices nationwide to monitor the activity and forbid its hunting and sale.

Rumors spread that the tokay gecko is being hunted for its medicinal value and may be a possible cure for acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).

Pangasinan to receive Likas Yaman Award

The province will receive the most-coveted Likas Yaman award on June 30 in San Fernando City,La Union as the Best Local Government Unit (LGU)-initiated environmental project (provincial category )in the entire region.

Provincial Administrator Rafael F. Baraan made the announcement during the regular flag-raising ceremony today, June 27, as he said that the award came as a result of hardwork, dedication and unity among leaders and the people of Pangasinan to further the cause of environmental protection as proven by the various programs and projects launched by the present administration.

“We are reaping the fruits of our labor,” Baraan said as he added that thru the initiative of Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr., environmental awareness has slowly become an integral part in the lives of Pangasinenses nowadays.

It will be recalled that the provincial government has formed Task Force Kalikasan and successfully conducted massive river and waterways clean-up drive in Pangasinan to revive and free Agno River and other river tributaries from illegal fishing structures.

An environmentalist, Gov. Espino started his environmental crusade in early 90’s when he was still the PNP Provincial Director with his Save the Lingayen Gulf (SLING) Movement followed by Green the Mountains Again project during his term as the congressman of the 2nd congressional district of Pangasinan from July 2001 to June 2007.

Massive tree planting activities served as one of the forefront activities of the Governor’s environment agenda with more than 5 million seedlings distributed to various schools, Rotary Clubs, non-government organizations and LGUs throughout Pangasinan.

At present, there are one million seedlings available and ready to be planted in the mountainous areas of the province where sites are partly denuded and needs to be reforested to bring back the verdant environs and to mitigate the effects of global warming.

The Governor likewise launched a special project recently in coordination with the PNP and PENRO involving the arrest or seizure of persons who will be caught throwing garbage on rivers.

Towards the end, Gov. Espino has offered a cash reward of P10,000 for every Pangasinense who will arrest or seize persons throwing garbage on Pangasinan rivers and waterways.
