Wars of ancient history were about possessions, territory, power, control, family, betrayal, lover's quarrel, politics and sometimes religion.

But we are in the Modern era and supposedly more educated and enlightened .

Think about this. Don't just brush off these questions.

  • Why is RELIGION still involved in WARS? Isn't religion supposed to be about PEACE?
  • Ask yourself; What religion always campaign to have its religious laws be accepted as government laws, always involved in wars and consistently causing WARS, yet insists that it's a religion of peace?

WHY??

There are only two kinds of people who teach tolerance:
  1. The Bullies. They want you to tolerate them so they can continue to maliciously deprive you. Do not believe these bullies teaching tolerance, saying that it’s the path to prevent hatred and prejudice.
  2. The victims who are waiting for the right moment to retaliate. They can’t win yet, so they tolerate.

Dietary supplement is a product that contains vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, enzymes, and/or other ingredients intended to supplement the diet. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has special labeling requirements for dietary supplements and treats them as foods, not drugs.

Manufacturers and distributors of dietary supplements and dietary ingredients are prohibited from marketing products that are adulterated or misbranded. That means that these firms are responsible for evaluating the safety and labeling of their products before marketing to ensure that they meet all the requirements of DSHEA and FDA regulations.

PAGASA: Rain may fall over Batanes, Palawan, Bicol, Visayas, Mindanao

While much of Luzon may continue to swelter in the summer heat, rain may fall on parts of Batanes, Palawan, Bicol, Visayas and Mindanao on Sunday, state weather forecasters said.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) noted an inter-tropical convergence zone is affecting Southern Mindanao.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA also said a frontal system is affecting Batanes in extreme northern Luzon.

"Palawan, Bicol region, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms. Batanes group of islands will have mostly cloudy skies with rain showers," it said.

Metro Manila may expect temperatures from 23 to 35 degrees from Sunday up to Wednesday, according to PAGASA's extended weather outlook.

Tuguegarao may experience temperatuers up 36 degrees Celsius on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The Subic-Clark area may experience 36-degree weather Wednesday.

On Saturday afternoon, Metro Manila sizzled at 35.9 degrees Celsius, the hottest temperature so far in the National Capital Region this year.

It was a jump of sorts from the 34.8 degrees registered in Metro Manila Friday afternoon. Last April 16, PAGASA recorded a high of 35.7 degrees in Pasay City.

Last Friday, Tuguegarao experienced 37.5-degree weather while Cabanatuan City experienced a high of 37.2 degrees last Monday.

But the highest temperature recorded so far this year was in Clark in Pampanga, at 38.4 degrees Celsius earlier this month.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the east to northeast will prevail over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao on Sunday, and coming from the east to southeast over the rest of the country.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate, it added.

Basco’s Kulay fest revives traditional games, Ivatan culture

BASCO, Batanes- The local government has chosen to celebrate “Kulay festival” the traditional way by reviving customary games as part of the preservation effort of the Ivatan culture.

For the past three years, traditional games are played to highlight sports festivals.

Ivatan traditional games such as Kalasag, a game using coconut shell with a tie to hold on, on chest level for girls; Kadang-kadang, using bamboo or wooden stilts; the tatus (coconut crab) relay played through backward squatting; Karirit, using stick to let a wheel run thru the alley; the maninadis, local version of going to market with additional load of root crops in the farming basket, unloading and loading race as part of the game; gavu (arm wrestling) and palang (tug of war) were a hit during the two-day festivities.

As in other games, all the traditional Ivatan games were governed by rules.

Traditional games are taught in the elementary and secondary in order to promote appreciation of these games which are much part of the Ivatan culture.

The traditional games are participated in by the young generations.

On the other hand, the palo-palo (traditional war dance of the Ivatans) as s performed simultaneously by three groups; the adult; the teens or secondary school students and the elementary grades to raise the awareness of its preservation of the historic dance between the Spanish missionaries, the captors and the Ivatan pagans, their captives.

Basco awards outstanding barangays and Ivasays

BASCO, Batanes- The municipal government of Basco highlighted the opening program of the Kulay festival last April 16 by awarding the most outstanding barangay, two outstanding Ivasay and one Basco love ko promoter.

The most outstanding barangay is Kayhuvukan, which was evaluated monthly by a team from September 2011 to April 2012. The assessment was based on the upkeep of peace and order, sanitation, functionality/implementation of program and projects, and vision and innovations.

Two outstanding Ivasay (local term for a “native of Basco) were recognized: Valeriano Lizardo, for being a model artisan, who preserved the skills and culture of the original, indigenous tataya-making, and Severino Villarta, for his noteworthy contribution in the preservation of organic vegetable production, a constant supplier of vegetables year-round even on off seasons.

Villarta is a bearer of the provincial motto: “Go back to farming for livelihood and survival, the organic way.”

The third awardee is a community service recipient of "Basco love ko," Ramona EA. Castillejos, a retired supervisor in Science at the Department of Education.

Since her retirement, Castillejos intensified her efforts and time to play shepherd to the flock of Basco senior citizens which enhanced the healthy lifestyle of the elderly and she is also assisting the senior citizens to promote the elderly rights and welfare.

The outstanding barangay awardee received a plaque of recognition and P4,000 cash while three others were each given a plaque.

Magnitude 4 quake rocks Batanes

A magnitude 4 quake rocked the province of Batanes in Northern Luzon before dawn Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The quake occurred at 4:22 a.m. with its epicenter located 141 kilometers northwest of Basco. The quake was tectonic in origin with a depth of 11 kilometers. No damages or aftershocks are expected from the quake, Phivolcs said.

Earlier, a magnitude 3.6 quake also occurred 71 kilometers southwest of Cotabato City at 12:44 a.m. The quake was also tectonic with a depth of 15 kilometers. No damages were also reported in the quake.

4.8-quake jolts Batanes

A shallow, tectonic magnitude-4.8 earthquake rocked the northern province of Batanes Sunday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tremor, which occurred at 1:34 p.m. and originated 8 kilometers below the ground, was classified as moderately strong, with intensity 4 felt in Basco. It was generally felt by people indoors.

Its epicenter was offshore, some 76 km south of Basco. There were no casualties or damage reported. Phivolcs said it was not expecting aftershocks.

Provincial tourism council starts local tourism dev’t plan

BASCO, Batanes- The provincial tourism council chaired by Gov. Vicente S. Gato has started working on the province’s tourism development plan with the assistance of all tourism frontliners and tour operators in the province.

An ad hoc committee has been formed to consolidate all tourism programs proposals from the council members and from the grassroots to complete the 3-year (short term) and the 10-year (long term) tourism development plan.

The committee is composed of Genes Galarion of the Pacita Fundacion as chairman; Dennis Lim of Tawsen Agri-ventures for transportation, hostel and restaurant operators/proprietors; tour guide Roger Doplito for transportation also; Tour guide association president Eduardo Delfin for tour guiding; tour guide Juliet Cataluña, for travel and tour operation and Non-government organization representative Byron Peralta for community affairs.

The identified tourism operators are the caterers, hostel owners, restaurant operators, transportation sector, souvenir item producers, the tour guides, the homestay owners and artisans.

The committee agreed to reach out the grassroots in the municipal and barangay levels to obtain their views on tourism, their proposals and support for tourism.

Juliet Cataluña, former manager of the Batanes Eco-tourism cooperative, said the committee believes that through focus group discussion with the grassroots, they would be able to generate more cooperation for the tourism industry of the province.

Regional evaluators to assess nutrition program in Batanes

BASCO, Batanes- The Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) from Tuguegarao is in this island province from March 12 to 16 to evaluate nutrition program implementation for the year 2011.

The team is set to visit all municipalities, review records and results of provincial evaluation on nutrition program implementation through ocular inspection of municipal and barangay nutrition offices and projects, conduct interview with municipal nutrition action officer before the team evaluates.

The results of the evaluation, which include the good points, weak points, problems, or situationers encountered by the team, recommendations and challenges for the improvement of performance will be tackled in the feedback meeting with the presence of the PNC headed by the Governor Vicente Gato and the provincial nutrition action officers.

The RNET also requested a separate schedule of meeting with the governor as chairman of the provincial nutrition program, and the provincial nutrition council (PNC) headed by the provincial nutrition action officer.

Per results of nutrition program implementation in 2010 Batanes was able to maintain its rank as Consistent Regional Outstanding winner in Nutrition (CROWN) award for three years now. Batanes received P100,000 cash as a CROWN awardee.

From the cash award, the 29 barangay nutrition scholars province-wide received incentive of P2,000 each for being the frontliners in the provincial nutrition program implementation. The 135 barangay health workers were given P500 each.

It was the consensus of the provincial nutrition council to give incentives to them for working closely with the PNC and for their dedicated services in the nutrition program.

Batanes Tremor

A 4.5-magnitude tremor hit some areas in Batanes province early Monday morning but no casualties or damage to property was reported, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) satellite office based here.

Local Phivolcs Researcher Porferio Peralta said the 4.5 magnitude earthquake happened at 5:31 a.m. with the epicenter located at 41 kilometers southeast of Basco, Batanes.

It had a depth of 148 kilometers and, as such, did not register a strong intensity.

Peralta said that the quake was tectonic in origin but no intensity recorded in the affected areas as well as no aftershock to be expected.
