As you explore the hottest and most bio-diverse desert in North America, the Sonoran Desert, chances are you will see glimpses of over 60 species of mammals, 350 kinds of birds, amphibians and reptiles. The Sonoran Desert also houses an abundance of native flora and fauna, including the ancient towering Saguaro Cactus (the skyscrapers of the desert) whose blossom is the official state flower of Arizona.
Sheer red sandstone cliffs and its telltale hump draw thousands of hikers to Camelback Mountain each year. Hiking to the top is not for beginner hikers.
There are two trails that ascend to the top of Camelback Mountain:
1. Summit Trail (Echo Canyon)
Length: 1.2 miles, one way
Elevation Gain: 1,264 feet (summit is 2,704 feet)
Difficulty: Strenuous and difficult
Enter at Echo Canyon Parkway just east of Tatum Boulevard, from McDonald Drive. Parking is extremely limited at this trailhead and wait time for a spot on weekends is substantial.

2. Cholla Trail
Length: 1.5 miles
Elevation Gain: 1,200 feet (summit is 2,704 feet)
Difficulty: Moderate
Parking is available on Invergordon/64th Street, near Cholla Lane. There is no trailhead parking and street parking is very limited. Hikers must park on Invergordon and walk up the south side of Cholla Lane. Dropping off hikers on Cholla Lane is prohibited.
