2 cities suspend classes Thursday
Classes in all levels in public and private schools in the cities of Parañaque and San Juan are suspended on Thursday due to a planned protest by jeepney drivers and operators.
San Juan Mayor Guia Gomez said the suspension “is for the welfare of the community in general, and the school children.”
The management of Far Eastern University (FEU) also announced that classes in all its campuses will be suspended.
The Department of Education has left the decision to call off Thursday classes to the respective city governments.
Transport groups are set to stage a protest caravan to show their dismay over the deferment of the decision on the P0.50 provisional fare hike for jeepneys.
PNP offers P1-M reward to get killers of 7-year-old girl in Parañaque
The Philippine National Police is offering P1-million reward for information leading to the arrest of suspects behind the kidnap-slay of 7-year old Clarissa Pizarra, whose decomposing body was found on March 5 in a creek in Parañaque City.
In a press release on Saturday, PNP Chief Director General Nicanor A Bartolome also expressed the condolences of the PNP leadership to the family of Clarissa Pizarra and vowed to get to the bottom of this crime “whatever it takes.”
Touched by the fate suffered by the girl, Bartolome himself mobilized the investigative arms of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Southern Police District (SPD) and Parañaque City Police Office to unearth the facts and give justice to Clarissa.
"I have personally instructed the police commanders of these units to maximize all available resources and manpower to solve this case at the soonest possible time," Bartolome said.
The Chief PNP said the P1-million reward will come from the PNP Reward System managed by the Directorate for Intelligence.
“We hope the reward will hasten and complement our investigation and provide sufficient leads to identify and prosecute those behind this 'sick' crime," he added.
Clarissa was last seen on February 20, the day she was snatched by unidentified men in Barangay San Dionisio. Her body was found on March 12 at the Balitahar Creek area.
P’que holds simultaneous earthquake drill
PARAÑAQUE CITY- Considering the threat of man-made and natural disasters, the city government of Parañaque on Monday, held a simultaneous earthquake drill on March 5.
Parañaque Mayor Jun Bernabe said the activity was done to assess and improve the city’s disaster mitigation and management plans, as well as enhance their response capabilities.
“We regularly hold disaster drills to increase the awareness and preparedness of citizens, school children among them in event of calamities,” said Bernabe.
The simultaneous earthquake drill was held the Parañaque City Hall, Blue Building, Florencio V. Bernabe, Sr. Memorial Hospital, Parañaque City Jail, Parañaque’s PNP and BFP Central Headquarters, and in all private and public schools in the city.
The drill was also made possible in cooperation with the Bureau of Fire Protection and Philippine National Police.
P’que holds orientation on use of revised SALN form
PARAÑAQUE CITY- To make the Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth (SALN) compliance easy, convenient and complete, the city government of Parañaque held an orientation on the use of the revised SALN form.
The orientation held Tuesday, March 6 at the city hall was led by Civil Service Commission Director Ma. Victoria Salazar.
Salazar thoroughly discussed the guidelines of the newly-revised SALN form.
The orientation held was timely and necessary considering the use of the revised SALN form is prescribed starting 2011 per CSC Memorandum Circular No, 11-00902 dated July 8, 2011.
The yearly SALN filing is required for elected officials and government employees pursuant to Sec. 17, Art. XI of the 1987 Constitution; Sec. 8 of R.A. No. 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards of Public Officials and Employees); and Sec. 7 of R.A. 3019 (Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act).
Meanwhile, the city’s Human Resource Management Office will distribute CDs containing the presentation to city government offices for added reference.
Girl feted for daring rescue
The Paranaque City government recognized yesterday an 11- year-old girl for act of courage for rescuing another child when a light cargo plane crashed last December 10 along Lower Taiwan, Dona Soledad Extension, Bgy. Don Bosco, Paranaque City.
Mayor Florencio Bernabe said Rodelyn Molina suffered multiple third degree burns in her body for plucking another girl from a blaze that ensued after a plane crash. The fire killed 13 persons, injured 15 and damaged one public elementary school. Some 30 houses were also razed by the blaze sending more than 40 families homeless.
“Rodelyn’s act is a shining example of uncommon courage and fierce determination to save others even If she comes to harm’s way. We commend her for this selfless act and urge our citizens to develop this quality and come to the aid of fellow citizens in times of great need as in disasters like this one,” said Bernabe.
The Parañaque City Government paid Molina’s P1.4 hospital bill which the PCSO later reimbursed. Molina was received a P50,000 cash toke from city government.
