Miss Universe 2015 Wurtzbach to receive Congressional Medal of Honor

MANILA, Jan. 20 (PNA) -- Newly crowned Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach will be awarded with Congressional Medal of Honor next week after the House of Representatives adopted House Resolution 2583 on third and final reading.

The native of Cagayan de Oro City is expected to visit the House of Represntatives to receive the rare honor which is given to an individual who received international recognition.

The resolution, authored by Cagayan de Oro City Rep.Rufus Rodriguez and his younger brother, Abante Mindanao Party-list Rep. Maximo Rodriguez, congratulates Kagay-anon (native of Cagayan de Oro) Ms. Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach for winning the 2015 Ms Universe pageant and designating her as Ambassador of Goodwill of CDO.

Wurtzbach is expected to visit the House of Representatives on January 26 and Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. will present her with the Congressional Medal of Honor together with the authors of the consolidated resolution.

The new Miss Universe is scheduled to visit her hometown, Cagayan de Oro on January 29, 2016 and she will be warmly received by the Rodriguez brothers and other officials who will roll out the red carpet for her.

The half German beauty is the third Miss Universe of the Philippines. She followed the footsteps of Gloria Diaz (Miss Universe 1969) and Margie Moran (Miss Universe 1973).
