ILOILO CITY (PNA) -- The Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) is now prepared to maintain public safety in welcoming the New Year.

Darwin Papa of the CDRRMC said that they will deploy four ambulances and two back-up vehicles starting 8:00 p.m. of December 31 in Jaro Plaza, Molo Plaza, Diversion Road and the Freedom Grandstand.

Last year, the CDRRMC responded to 50 incidents. Papa said that most patients suffered from pulmonary problems, mostly asthma.

Meanwhile, Ilonggos are advised to avoid the use of firecrackers. They could use other alternatives that produce sounds like cooking utensils, among others.

People with lung problems and other medical conditions are advised to be prepared and use mask to avoid the inhalation of fumes from the firecrackers as it can trigger asthma attacks or any pulmonary problems.

Papa also reminded those who will be using firecrackers to always have a “presence of mind and situational awareness” to avoid injuries.

Meanwhile, Ilonggos are invited to witness the city government’s New Year’s countdown and fireworks display at the Muelle Loney in this city.
