21st Milo Little Olympics Regional Finals opens September 8

CEBU -- About 4,000 athletes will converge at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) for the opening ceremony of 21st Milo Little Olympics Regional Finals on Thursday, September 8.

Visayas leg head organizer Ricky Ballesteros said, in a press conference at the SM Seaside on Wednesday, that the participants come from 250 schools in Visayas region.

Olympic marathoner and reigning three-time Milo Marathon champion Mary Joy Tabal will signal the opening of the games as she will light Milo's Urn of peace and unity.

"I once dream to have Milo title and it leads to where I am now. You will experience failures but with perserverance and dedication you can make it," Tabal said.

There will be 15 sporting events to be competed: arnis, athletics, badmimton, basketball, chess, football, gymnastics, karatedo, lawn tennis, scrabble, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball.

The University of San Carlos Basic Education Department and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu will defend its elementary and secondary title.

The sporting event will run from September 8 to 11 in different playing venues in Cebu.
