MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Dec | MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Dec 26 (PIA) -- The Office of the Civil Defense – Provincial Office urges for pre-emptive evacuation in flood prone barangays in St. Bernard as the water level along the Lawigan River has risen three meters beyond the critical level, as of 1:00 p.m. today. | ||
OCD provincial coordinator Marichu Tan reported that pre-emptive evacuation of residents along the Lawigan River to start now before it gets dark particularly in Barangay Mahayahay in St. Bernard. | |||
She reported that more than 14 individuals and an infant in Barangay Carnaga have already been evacuated due to waters reaching critical level as heavy rains continue to pour in the said area. Barangay Tambis had been alerted for possible evacuation anytime. | |||
Four families in Barangay Hindag-an had also been evacuated to safer grounds. | |||
Meanwhile, for two days now, the municipalities of Silago, St. Bernard, San Juan, and San Ricardo have been experiencing heavy rains and were advised by the OCD for pre-emptive evacuation especially residents near the river banks. (ESG-PIA SoLeyte) | |||
