SOUTHERN LEYTE, Oct 7 (PIA) -- The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) based in Tacloban City named the two winners for the search of 2011 Model OFW Family of the Year after a two-week regional screening and validating the eigth nominees throughout Eastern Visayas Region.
OWWA Labor Communications Officer Florence D. Panao reported that the search was categorized into two, the sea-based category which was won by Capt. Teddy V. Abrea from Almeria, Biliran and the land-based category that was awarded to Engr. Cesario G. de Dios, Jr. from Ormoc City.
The winners garnered the highest scores, topping the pre-screening and screening periods, Panao disclosed. They were ranked according to the following criteria: 50% wholesome OFW family image with indicators that include constancy of positive communication, sharing of responsibilities among family members and psychosocial maturity of children.
While, another 20% for civic and community involvement of OFW and family members which may take the form of involvement in advocacies and successful community projects, membership in civic organizations, and special commendation to family members; 20% success of family members’ education that indicates family members’ completed education and special citations received; and10% success in managing family finances that ranges from business to savings and investment.
Both winners are now successful in their own fields, the source added. They received plaques of recognition during the awarding ceremony held at Patio Victoria, Baluarte in San Jose , Tacloban City, October 5, 2011 and was awarded a G-cash amounting to P20,000 and a BDO Savings Account with initial deposit of P5,000.
Panao further said that a plaque of recognition was also given to the other nominees – Panfilo Abanilla, Nilo Cabantac, Jose Genson, Romeo Navidad, Jaime Orzales, and Jaime Sapeda for their contribution to the upliftment of the OFW Family image.
She added that the 2011 MOFYA on its 7th year was aimed at “giving proper recognition to the outstanding achievements of OFWs and their families; promoting success stories about the OFW families’ endurance over the challenges of overseas employment and highlighting the role of the OFW family in the attainment of socio-civic, educational, professional and material success.” (rgc/PIa-SoLeyte)
