THIRTEEN fishermen were rescued in two separate incidents in Marinduque and Batangas after their vessels capsized due to turbulent waters and strong winds caused by tropical storm “Mina.” | |||
Coast Guard spokesperson Lcdr. Algier Ricafrente reported that the incident in Marinduque involved a fishing vessel named FB Seniorita Agua. | |||
Those who were saved were identified as Melecio Donilla, Elisio Donilla, Walter Briones, Anthony Briones, Wilson Briones, Rolando Briones, Demosthenes Lesondre, Enrico Duran, Elmer Altavano, Gabriel Candeloria, Jimmy Briones and Agustin Panisales, all residents of Barangay Cotta, Lucena City. | |||
Reports reaching the main headquarters of Coast Guard commandant Admiral Ramon C. Liwag said the vessel with 12 fishermen on-board were on their way to a fishing venture when they encountered big waves at about 3:10 a.m. brought about by the storm at the vicinity waters off Elephant Island, Lipa, Buenavista. | |||
A certain Liticia Orbe appeared to the Coast Guard Detachment Cotta to report about the incident, it was learned. | |||
The detachment then relayed the information to the Coast Guard Station Lucena, which alerted the Coast Guard Detachment Gasan to first verify the said report. | |||
Personnel of CGDet Gasan were immediately dispatched to the area and got a confirmation statement from the vessel’s captain, identified as AgustinPanisales. | |||
They also found out that the fishermen were rescued and brought to Sitio Maulawin, Bgy. Torrijos, Marinduque and then to the Torrijos Police Station for proper disposition. | |||
