DAVAO CITY – Even as the city continues to fight against the pandemic, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is keen on completing the new Tourist Police Unit (TPU) office located at the center of commerce, beside one of the popular shopping malls here along J.P. Laurel Avenue. Capt. Raymundo Bacera, acting city TPU chief, told the Philippine News Agency on Monday that the construction of its building was initially eyed for completion in October 2021 but was reset several times due to changing coronavirus disease 2019 restrictions. “It was pushed further because of the pandemic but we are looking at March 2022 as the new completion date,” he said.
BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Public utility vehicles (PUVs) on Tuesday stopped using the private terminal here in protest of alleged excessive increase in the terminal fees. Cris Mira, chairperson of the Kaisahan ng mga Sasakyang Namamasada sa Bataan (Kasakbayan), said the terminal fee hikes are untimely, especially now the country is still grappling with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions. Passenger jeepneys, he said, have now to pay PHP35 per dispatch as compared to the previous PHP5 only per dispatch while terminal fees for mini-buses increased up to PHP80 per dispatch and for UV Express up to PHP50.

BAGUIO CITY – The city government here said residents may now hold private gatherings but the venue needs to be inspected and approved a week before the set date. Aileen Refuerzo, Public Information Office chief, in a phone interview on Monday, said the rule is part of Executive Order 5-2022 issued by Mayor Benjamin Magalong on January 7 providing for measures to control the further spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). Refuerzo said “the host must first obtain a permit to gather from the mayor’s office at least seven days before the conduct of the private gathering activity, the approval of which will be subject to the inspection of the City Health Service Office (CHSO)".
ZAMBOANGA CITY – For the first time in history, this city will be home to one of the five testing centers in Mindanao for this year’s Bar examination. Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said Tuesday that the venue of the Bar examination here, which will be held from February 4 to 6, is the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU). The Bar examination will also be simultaneously held in the cities of Davao, General Santos, Cagayan de Oro, and Iligan. The Bar examination was supposed to be held here on January 16, 23, 30, and February 6 but was postponed due to the surge of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases.
