ILOILO CITY (PIA6) --- The province of Iloilo was conferred the Hall of Fame as best performing local government unit in the province category of the 2016 Search for Excellence in Local Governance (EXCELL) Awards by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-6.

DILG-6 Regional Director Anthony Nuyda said that the province of Iloilo has continuously exhibited above-benchmark performance in all facets of governance – administrative, social, economic, and environmental.

Iloilo province has consistently been hailed as best performing province for the years 2014, 2015, and 2016.

For 2016, the province emerged as champion in social governance, economic governance, and environmental governance, and was declared 1st Runner Up in administrative governance.

Meanwhile, Iloilo City was also declared best performing city in Western Visayas for 2016.

Iloilo City was hailed champion in administrative governance, social governance, and economic governance, and was declared 2nd Runner Up in environmental governance.

The municipality of Tubungan, Iloilo was conferred best performing local government unit for the 4th to 6th class municipalities category.

The municipality was declared champion in administrative governance, social governance, economic governance, and environmental governance.

The EXCELL Awards is a project of DILG-6 which recognized the best managed local governments in the region that demonstrate best practices, achievements, and innovations in governance, administration, social services, economic development, environmental management, and local legislation.

The program also aims to advocate for transparency and accountability in governance, positively reinforce good performers, popularize replicable best practices, and identify possible interventions to improve the LGU performance.
