A popular local story also provides for the origin of the barangay’s name: • It is said that long time ago, the place was covered with thick forests and plenty of grasses. But when the early settlers practiced kaingin (slash and burn agriculture), the trees disappeared and the grasses dried up. Animals had to feed on scanty and dried grass. However, there was a certain place on the side of a hill where stunted grasses grew. It was there where the people gazed their animals. Since there were only few grasses, the animals had to kibkib (to consume bit by bit) the grasses. It is believed that this caused the people to name the place Caribquib. • The barangay has sprawling agricultural lands, forests and creeks (Manuel, Adonis B. Jan. 30, 2011)

Brief Profile of Barangay Caribquib

Barangay Caribquib, one of the twenty barangays of Banna, Ilocos Norte, is located on the north part of the municipality. It is found three kilometers north of the poblacion. It is bounded on the south by Barangay Valenciano of the same municipality, on the north by Barangay Fortuna, Marcos, Ilocos Norte, on the west by Barangay Barbarangay, another barangay of Banna and on the east by Barangay Tabtabagan, Banna, Ilocos Norte. It has a total land area of six hundred hectares ( 600 ha.).
Barangay Caribquib is composed of the following sitios: Caribquib Proper, Dispensa, San Juan, Nanamburan and Daramuangan. These sitios are far from each other.
This barangay was established in 1913 when Banna became a regular municipality after it was separated from the Municipality of Batac, Ilocos Norte.
- The original families were those of Pedro Valentino, Tranquilino Dimaya and Apolonio Dizol. The earliest tenientes del barrio were: Tranquilino Dimaya, Francisco Ramones, Herminigildo Valentino, Blas Braceros, Valentin Limet, Saturnino Tabucbuc, Francisco Aspili, Aurelio Romualdo, Mardonio Quimoyog, Paulino Lumbo, Fermin Valentino and Januario Pascua.

- The barangay has sprawling agricultural lands, forests and creeks. Farming is the primary occupation of the people whose main crops are rice, garlic, tobacco and onions. Aside from the farmers, many of the people in the place work as teachers, employees, businessmen and balikbayans.
- A public elementary school and a national secondary school are situated in the barangay and these institutions serve as the educational grounds for the barangay’s young children and learners.
- Barangay Caribquib is one of the most agriculturally productive barangays of the municipality contributing to food security and to the economic prosperity in the locality.
- Owing to the culture of the place and in keeping with tradition the residents of Barangay Caribquib are an industrious, frugal and disciplined people. This can be manifested by an above-average and more affluent lifestyle enjoyed by the barangay’s inhabitants.
- Because of the existence of an elementary and secondary school within the barangay, there is a higher rate of literacy among the people. And as a barangay situated along a major road, the Ilocos Norte- Abra National Highway, there is a greater opportunity for the barangay’s learners to pursue post secondary and tertiary level education. Thus, there is a higher ratio of college graduates and professionals than is usually found in the more remote barangays of the municipality.
- Barangay Caribquib has also attained other areas of distinction in the municipality. Owing to a diligent , dedicated and committed barangay government headed by equally diligent, dedicated and committed barangay officials, Barangay Caribquib has attained the distinction of winning ( three – time Champion , Category A) the municipality’s OPLAN SALUKAG PROGRAM ( Operation Plan: Saluadam Lugar Ken Aglawlaw), an environmental program and competition initiated and conducted annually by the Local Government of Banna. Likewise, Barangay Caribquib has been a consistent winner ( three-time 1ST Place Awardee) of the CARLY AWARDS ( Community Acclaimed Rural Legislators of the Year Awards) also held annually in the municipality.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND COST:

The Banna Zipline Project is located in the Paraiso ti Caribquib, in particular, on the sprawling forest area and creek on the western part of Barangay Caribquib, at Sitio Daramuangan.
At first the banks along the creek of the Paraiso ti Caribquib was just an alternative site for a picnic for those who had had enough of the sun and water afforded by the town’s rivers , and the soaring hills and forests around the creek as another destination for a trek for the more adventurous type.
The Sitio of Daramuangan wherein can be found the Paraiso ti Caribquib became the venue of a Walk for a Cause conducted in the Year of 2007 by the Roman Catholic Church -Parish of San Roque . Likewise, a Mass and a Thanksgiving Service was held at the same venue, with the presence of the Diocesian Bishop Sergio Utleg. Then Municipal Mayor, Honorable CARLITO A. ABADILLA II attended both events and saw the area’s potential.
It is noteworthy to mention at this juncture that the Municipality of Banna, Ilocos Norte represented by then Municipal Mayor Honorable CARLITO A. ABADILLA II witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement for the development of a one hundred-hectare ( 100 ha.) area under a co-management scheme with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) of ILOCOS NORTE and the Barangay Council of Caribquib represented by Punong Barangay Adonis Manuel for eco-tourism cum forest protection purposes.
Wishing to start developing the site, the Barangay Government of Caribquib and its constituents, through self-help, built a handful of cottages on one side of the creek.
But it was through the stroke of genius of Honorable Carly Abadilla II, then at the helm of the Local Government of Banna, and greatly inspired to develop the area as an eco-tourism venture and as a premier destination for pleasure and recreation for people, vacationers and visitors that the Paraiso ti Caribquib became famous and a destination of choice.
With an allocation from the Banna Municipal Fund, the Banna Zipline Project, the first ever to be built and installed in the whole Province of Ilocos Norte ,became a reality. To complement the exhilarating experience derived from a heart-stopping ride at the Zipline, a Hanging Bridge was built by the Local Government Of Banna, Ilocos Norte near the Zipline. This hanging bridge induces the same adrenaline- producing experience given by the Zipline.
Due to the daily large number of people visiting the Paraiso and wishing to ride the Zipline and walk on the Hanging Bridge, the Barangay Government of Caribquib installed additional cottages along the banks at a cost of Twenty Five Thousand Pesos and landscaped the areas in the site for added attraction. Donations from other sources greatly helped to improve the area.

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

To date there are now five (5) cottages built and owned by the Barangay Government of Caribquib , and four (4) built and owned by each of four sitios of the barangay. An area of the forest has been cleared to serve as parking space for vehicles carrying visitors to the area.
The Barangay Government of Caribquib manages the operation of the Paraiso Ti Caribquib Resort, including the Zipline , Hanging Bridge and other facilities in the site.
For those wishing to visit the Paraiso Ti Caribquib avail of its facilities at the following cost:
- Cottage Fee: Php 200.00 / cottage/day
- Entrance Fee: Php 5.00 per head
- Zipline: Php 50.00/ride

PROJECT RESULT

I. BARANGAY INCOME

The success of the Banna Zipline Adventure and the Paraiso ti Caribquib as an eco-tourism venture has generated additional income for the barangay. The following data show the income generated for a six-month period. Herein enumerated are the total income for each of the following months of 2010:

Forty percent ( 40%) accrues to the Barangay Government , forty percent ( 40%) for operators and for manpower and the remaining twenty percent ( 20%) is allocated for maintenance cost.

EMPLOYMENT:

The Banna Zipline Adventure and the Paraiso ti Caribquib has generated additional employment opportunities for the barangay residents.
The Paraiso ti Caribquib Eco-Tourism is open seven days a week from nine o’clock in the morning up to six o’clock in the afternoon. ( 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.). Barangay Officials, Barangay Tanod, Barangay Health Workers , Purok Presidents and other residents of the barangay provide the manpower and are on duty everyday to provide assistance, service and attention to visitors. Those trained serve as operators for the Zipline.
The Municipal Government of Banna, Ilocos Norte under the leadership of the Municipal Mayor Honorable CARLITO N. ABADILLA and the Municipal Vice Mayor Honorable CARLY A. ABADILLA II, providing its steadfast assistance to the Barangay Government of Caribquib and its constituents has embarked on a continuing development of this eco-tourism venture. Currently, the Municipal Government is installing another phase of the Zipline project, a more ambitious and daring project, a project designed to exhilarate, challenge and stimulate (Manuel, Adonis B., January 30, 2011).

How the College of Teacher Education starts its services to Paraiso Ti Caribquib PHASE 1

The Brgy. Chairman, Adonis B. Manuel, learned from the students enrolled in the College of Teacher Education (CTE) at Northwestern University, Cherry Mae Ranga, Chairman’s neighbor and Romelyn dela Cruz of the Community Extension Services on Tree Planting and Literacy Program. The Chairman was very interested with the projects. The two students told to the CTE community extension coordinator, Ms. Flordelina B. Utleg, and she suggested to the students that the brgy. Chairman should write a Request Letter. The brgy. Chairman made a letter of request and sent it to Ms. Utleg through Cherry Mae Ranga. The coordinator submitted to the Director of Community Extension Services, Dr. Rudy Bareng. He told the coordinator that he will discuss in the Board Meeting. The coordinator prayed to the Almighty God that the request would be granted. After one week, the result came out and it was a very successful result. The request was approved.

The former dean of the the CTE, Dr. Elsie C. Pilar told the CTE coordinator to go to Caribquib with the CTE-SO officers. Romelyn dela Cruz, the former President of the CTE-SO and Cherry Mae Ranga, the CTE-SO secretary together with the CTE coordinator went to the Paraiso for ocular visit on July 18, 2010. The group informed the Director about the place of what they had noticed.

PHASE 2

THE SEMINAR IN ASSESSMENT OF ECOLOGICAL STATUS OF THE PARAISO AND PLANS AT THE BRGY HALL OF CARIBQUIB, BANNA, ILOCOS NOTE ON AUGUST 4, 2010 By Flordelina B. Utleg – May 5, 2011

Mr. Michael Jay A. Calaramo, the NWU Ecosystem Management and Development Officer, Mr. Michael Salud, from the RCEIAD office and Prof. Flordelina B. Utleg, the CTE extension coordinator, left the university campus at 7:40 A.M going to Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte. The group reached the place at 8:35 A.M.

Mr. Adonis Manuel, the barangay chairman, came to fetch the group in front of the barangay hall. They were settling problem of his barangay mates before the seminar started. After that, he introduced the barangay officials and then let the CTE extension coordinator to introduce her companions.

While Mr. Calaramo and Mr. Salud were preparing for the power point presentation and film viewing, the officials served snacks. When the seminar was going on, the audience listened very attentively and at the same time, they took their snacks.

Mr. Calaramo told the group that the NWU Botanic Gardens is number 7 among the 12 botanical gardens in the Philippines. He told that all institutions must do something to protect the environment. He presented the pictures of the NWU Ecotourism Park and Botanic Gardens and they appreciated it. He added that the Payas estate has 7.8 hectares and 2.5 hectares is the area of the Botanic Garden which is the best in Ilocos Norte.

During the seminar proper, he told that if there is a plant that cannot be found in the Philippines then they should register in the Philippine Native Plants Conservation Society Inc. He emphasized that when picnickers of Paraiso ti Caribquib, cleanliness should be maintained by implementing the prohibition of using plastic bags or if they use, then they should bring home all their trash. The Brgy. Chairman said that the DENR awarded the 100 hectares land to them.

The second part of the program was conceptualizing of the zoning of Paraiso ti Caribquib. There are two kinds of zoning:
1. Core zone – ecological area, reforestation project; conservation project; and landscaping
2. General used zone – parking, picnic shed, tree house, view deck and camping grounds

The CTE-SO adviser suggested to have a hiking trail, butterfly cage, mini zoo, bird watching area and to implement no smoking. Mr. Calaramo suggested also that they will put up a guest house for tourists and picnickers, a protected forest restoration and conservation area. He told that he will classify all the plants according to their classes to make the place beautiful, orderly and nice to look at. The Paraiso ti Caribquib will be for tourists, for researchers and for educational purpose.They will make an organizational chart and make different committees so that they will be responsible if there are visitors.

Mr. Calaramo asked the Chairman the stage of the place which are Stage 1 – degradation and cutting of small trees; Stage 2 – cutting small and big trees; Stage 3 – small amount of water; and Stage 4 – no more water.

He answered it is the first stage. The CTE-SO adviser suggested that the Chairman will start to prohibit the barangay folks to cut trees to conserve the native trees. Some native trees are mabolo, allagat, ariwat, rimas, and pakak.

At the end of the program, Mr. Calaramo promised that the Master Plan will be given to the official as a gift from Northwestern University.

Medicinal garden is one also of the programs of Mr. Calaramo. Just after the seminar, the group proceeded to Cariquib Elementary School to visit their medicinal garden. Due to that lunch break, the Principal was out so they went to go town proper to take their lunch and it was a compliment from the barangay officials. While having their lunch, they discussed about the future of the Paraiso ti Caribquib. Everybody is dreaming that it will be one of the most visited tourist spots of Ilocos Norte.

After taking their lunch, the group went back to Caribquib Elementary School. The teachers were very glad to meet the group. Immediately, Mr. Calaramo informed them about the programs of the government about medicinal gardens. While having the discussions, the teachers offered snacks. The teachers were very happy and very thankful to the group for the offered program.

Lastly, the group went to Caribquib Barangay High School to offer again a help to the teachers to improve their medicinal garden and they were very glad and thankful also.

The group left the place at 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon and reached Northwestern University at 4:00 P.M.

'PHASE 3

THE SEMINAR ON WASTE MANAGEMENT IN PARAISO TI CARIBQUIB, BANNA, ILOCOS NORTE'

On August 22, 2010 the CTE-SO/VJSSGS faculty and students left Northwestern University campus at 8:00 A.M and they reached Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte at 9:15. The group immediately prepared the things needed for the seminar. Ms. Flordelina B. Utleg, the adviser of the CTE-SO, led the prayer before the seminar started. Just after her prayer, he called on the speaker, Mr. Michael Jay Calaramo, the manager of the NWU Ecotourism Park and Botanical Gardens. It was attended by some of the teachers and students of Caribquib Elementary and Caribquib Brgy. High School as well as the barangay officials and some barangay folks. The pupils were very excited to take down notes. They brought their notebooks and ball pens. The participants were very cooperative and they listened carefully.

The speaker discussed the importance of waste management. He further explained that if parents will go to the market, they should “Bring Your Own Bag” (BYOB) to minimize using plastic bags. They must apply zero waste management in their homes. Further, he told that if there are picnickers in Paraiso, the barangay officials should tell them to bring home all their garbage in order to keep the environment tidy and safe to live in. They must observe cleanliness. During the seminar, Mr. Calaramo presented the map and his plans for Paraiso to the barangay residents and they were very happy. After the discussion, the CTE-SO adviser called the Brgy. Chairman, Hon. Adonis B. Manuel for his message.

The seminar ended at 10:20 A.M. Indeed, it was a very successful activity!!!

TREE PLANTING IN PARAISO TI CARIBQUIB, BANNA, ILOCOS NORTE

On August 22, 2010 the College of Teacher Education Teacher Student Organization (CTE-SO) /VJSSGS faculty and students left Northwestern University campus at 8:00 A.M and reached Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte at 9:15.

When the group reached Paraiso, the barangay officials and folks were there already. The group comprised CTE students with their CTE-SO adviser, Ms. Flordelina B. Utleg; Mr. Michael Calaramo, the Manager of NWU Ecotourism Park and Botanical Gardens; the personnel of the Research and Extension Center headed by Ms. Catalina Exmundo; and the non-acad personnel headed by Ms. Cherry Paz. After the seminar on Waste Management, the group immediately planted the seedlings headed by the Brgy. Chairman, Hon. Adonis Manuel. They planted the century plant along the way going to Paraiso. The officials were very cooperative because they already dug holes for the seedlings and they already prepared a tree guard for the plant.

At 12:00 noon, the group took their lunch. After one hour, the group climbed the mountain to continue planting. The worst was, the group was not able to follow where the Chairman went. The group was shouting calling the Chairman when they had gone so far. Some did not continue to go far because they were afraid. The way was too risky. Some part of the way going to the mountain is only 3 feet wide and very slippery when wet. Some were lost on their way. There were only three (3) persons who reached the top of the mountain, Mr. Calaramo, and the 2 CTE students. The group was not able to plant because there was a heavy downpour. They came down from the mountain and some even slipped. Almost all of them were wet. To enjoy the rest of the time, some went to try the zipline. The zipline is 160 meters long. It is the first zipline in Ilocos Norte. Some tried to walk also in the hanging bridge.

Before the group left the place, Mr. Calaramo promised to the officials in cooperation with Ms. Utleg that Paraiso will be developed until December, 2010. The officials were very thankful and happy of what Mr. Calaramo promised.

The group left Paraiso ti Caribquib at 4:00 P.M. during the heavy downpour.

'PHASE 4

TREE PLANTING IN PARAISO TI CARIBQUIB, BANNA, ILOCOS NORTE ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2010'

Climbing the mountain to plant trees is the greatest adventure of an individual. It measures how strong and healthy a person is and how he loves the mother earth.

The thirteen CTE students and Mr. Michael Jay Calaramo with the three (3) Northwestern University security guards left Northwestern University campus at 7:45 in the morning. The CTE-SO adviser, Ms. Flordelina B. Utleg with her sister and her friend waited for them at the Laoag-Gabu Road junction. While they were at the junction, they took a picture while waiting for one (1) CTE student. The group rode in a dump truck with laughter. They stayed at the back. The adviser and her sister sat in front. The group reached Paraiso ti Caribquib at 8:45 A.M. They took a rest for few a minutes.

At 9:00 o’clock the group with some barangay officials carried the seedlings and proceeded to the way going to the mountain. Mr. Calaramo was left because he was busy planning and sketching the other side of the mountain. They walked beside the zipline center. When they were about thirty (30) meters away from the zipline, somebody shouted to tell them that they should go back. They went down and proceeded to the other way beside the videooke center.

While they were climbing the mountain, cheerfulness characterized by laughter pervaded. The students and some officials were very fast to walk and it was very slippery. The adviser sometimes held the weeds when she climbed. When the way was so steep and slippery, the guard held her hand and pulled her so she could go up. Some slippers were destroyed. The group sat down and took a little rest when they got tired and they teased each other. Though how tired they were, still they felt joy and happiness. The security guards informed the group that they enjoyed the activity. They suggested their participation in a similar activity.

They planted some Gmelina seedlings on the way going up the mountain. They reached the peak of the mountain after 30-45 minutes and while they sat down for few minutes to rest, one dragonfly alighted on her foot and after few minutes another came. This brought another hilarious experience. They knew they have come part of the environment.

After rest, the officials dug holes where they planted the seedlings. They worked and fast and though they were sweating profusely under the heat of the sun they were swept with feelings of satisfaction because their goal of helping restore the balance of nature through tree planting was achieved. They never complained of fatigue. Taking pictures while planting was another experience which brought joy. This is for posterity.

The last seedling was planted by the adviser. The security guards made a tree guard for her plant and labeled it, “LINA NWU” (LINA the four ending letters of FLORDELINA). After planting, they devoured the “Dingdong cornik” they brought. They drank the cold water which the barangay officials brought.

When they started to go down at 11:20 A.M., they were grouped into three. The first group told that there is another way going down. The second group did not follow. They followed the way where they passed when they went up. The third group (adviser’s group) decided whom to follow. At first, they followed the first group but when the second group shouted that there was no way going down where they went. The two groups went back and followed the second group. They were all laughing when they were all together going down again.

When they reached the cottage where they left their baggage, they told the adviser that they were so hungry. The adviser told them to bring out the foods. Mariecris Duldulao, the CTE-SO Treasurer, and Gladys Bumanglag, the CTE-SO President, went to buy soft drinks for the group. Mr. Michael Jay Calaramo with the three security guards took their lunch at the town proper. Some of the group together with the adviser went to take a bath first at the dam. Because the water was deep so they preferred to bathe using the flowing water from a hose. After taking a bath, they went back to the cottage and took their lunch. One official came to give foods for the group and asked for Mr. Calaramo. The adviser called Mr. Calaramo by her mobile phone telling him that the officials prepared lunch for them. Mr. Calaramo came back after a few minutes. He and the adviser joined the officials to take their lunch.

At 1:00 in the afternoon, they left the place. The group who took a bath did not change their clothes. They were wet when they went home. They reached Laoag at 2:00 o’clock and they went directly to Payas Botanical Garden. The group went inside the “Butterfly cage” and had picture taking. The group left the place after 30 minutes. Mr. Calaramo told the group that they will go back to Paraiso ti Caribquib again after the intramurals.

Everybody went home with combined feelings of joy and contentment.

The COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION of Northwestern University held a LITERACY PROGRAM in PARAISO TI CARIBQUIB, Banna, Ilocos Norte by Flordelina B. Utleg- May 5, 2011

On August 22, 2010 the College of Teacher Education Student Organization (CTE-SO)/VJSSGS faculty and students left Northwestern University campus at 8:00 A.M and they reached Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte at 9:15. The adviser. Ms. Flordelina B. Utleg, told the group that the seminar on Waste Management and literacy program will be held simultaneously so that after these activities, the Tree Planting Program will be done immediately. The group for the literacy program went to the venue and the group for the seminar immediately prepared the things needed. The adviser of the CTE-SO led the prayer before the seminar started. Just after her prayer, he called on the speaker, Mr. Michael Jay Calaramo, the manager of the NWU Ecotourism Park and Botanical Gardens. The adviser supervised the literacy program. There were 30 pupils ages 3-6 attended. The CTE-SO officers distributed the school supplies immediately. There were no enough chairs so as if when Jesus Christ preached. Gladys Bumanglag taught them action songs; the lesson of Cherry Mae Ranga was identifying colors; Antonio Domingo for story telling; Mariecris Duldulao for identifying shapes and Zander Mamuad for addition and subtraction. After the activity, the officers and students distributed snacks to the beneficiaries.

The activity was done successfully. The officers and students joined the tree planting after the literacy program.

THE NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY RESEARCH AND EXTENSION PERSONNEL COORDINATED WITH THE BARANGAY CHAIRMAN OF CARIBQUIB By Flordelina B. Utleg – January 7, 2012

On September 9, 2011at 9:00 A.M. Mr. Michael Jay A. Calaramo, the NWU Ecosystem Management and Development Officer Dr. Rudy Bareng, the Director of Community and Extension Services, Ms. Catalina Exmundo, Assistant Director of Community Extension Center, Ms. Teresita A. Domingo, the Extension Researcher and Ms. Flordelina B. Utleg, the CTE-SO Adviser and Community Extension Coordinator went to Caribiquib. They had a meeting to coordinate with the barangay officials headed by Bgy. Chairman Adonis Manuel. Ms. Exmundo discussed the different activities to be held in Caribquib on September 24, 2011 like seminar on personality development, assist once in putting up a barangay nursery, planting flowering plants and putting up our livelihood program.

The barangay chairman suggested that the group will concentrate yet on the landscaping before they will start another project. Ms. Utleg suggested that the activities will be done simultaneously. She also suggested that the participants for seminar on personality development will be the barangay officials, Barangay Health Worker, barangay tanod, Purok Presidents and Sangguniang Kabataan. Ms. Utleg suggested also that they will involve the students and pupils of Caribquib National High School and Caribquib Elementary School to be accompanied by their advisers.

Dr. Bareng asked the chairman to identify the place of barangay nursery. Mr. Calaramo suggested also that the flowering plants to be planted will be yellow bells.

The group saw that some of the barangay folks are doing the Superman which will have 320 meters long with a speed of 90kph. The Superman is like the zipline but the only difference is they harness the rider and as if he is diving while riding until he reaches the ending point.

The Zipline fee now has increased to P100.00 The barangay chairman had proudly informed the group that there are so many zipline riders now because Paraiso charges the cheapest fee.

The group left Caribquib at 11:45.

The COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION of Northwestern University established a Barangay Nursery and held Tree Planting and Parenting (Moral Values Formation) in PARAISO TI CARIBQUIB, Banna, Ilocos Norte on September 25, 2011

On September 25, 2011, the College of Teacher Education-Student Organization, Vedasto J. Samonte School Graduate Studies and Physical Education Sports Development Organization left the university at 8:10 AM headed by the CTE-SO Adviser and Community Extension Coordinator, Ms. Flordelina B. Utleg, together with Mr. Michael Jay A. Calaramo, the NWU Ecosystem Management and Development Officer and Ms. Catalina Exmundo, the Assitant Director, Community Extension Center. They left the university campus at 8:00 in the morning. They reached Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte at 9:00A.M.

When the group reached Paraiso ti Caribquib, the Brgy. Chairman, Hon. Adonis Manuel welcomed them and led them to the cottage where the Municipal Mayor, Hon. Carlito N. Abadilla was waiting. The mayor was very happy to meet the group. Ms. Exmundo and Ms. Utleg explained the activities to be done and the mayor thanked the group with a very sweet smile. After few minutes, he left the group to attend to other municipal duties. The activities were done simultaneously.

Mr. Calaramo with a group of students went to the grotto and planted flowering plants (yellow bell) to make the place more attractive.

Professor Ma. Teresa Carbonell of the graduate school led the discussion on parenting. They discussed about values. The students of ECE 207 gave their lectures to the parents of Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte. They gave lectures about parent involvement in the education of their children. They shared problems that they encountered in school, with the teachers as well as in their child’s behavior and study habits. They gave advice to the parents on what interventions they could do to improve their children’s study habits, etc.

The parents in the said barangay were so cooperative and they were very thankful because they were able to gain knowledge on parenting.

The students were also thankful for allowing them to share their knowledge on what they have learned in the course and shared their experiences as teachers. They felt fulfilled because the parents, the people, the Brgy. Chairman and the officers could learn from them.

At the end, as a sign of gratitude the students distributed simple tokens and snacks for the parents.

Ms. Utleg and Ms. Leticia Chiong, the adviser of PESDO led the other group of students to the mountain to plant the mahogany seedlings. The students of Caribquib National High School joined the activity. They were so happy in joining because they knew that their participation was for a worthy cause. Moreover, Ms. Utleg took their names so that they will be given a certificate for their involvement. After the planting of the seedlings, Ms. Utleg and Maricris Duldulao, the treasurer of the CTE-SO went to the group of the students of Caribquib National High School and pupils of Caribquib Elementary School headed by their advisers.

The students and pupils carried their own seedlings in the nursery which is near the running water. The barangay officials cleaned the place before they put their seedlings. Ms. Exmundo congratulated the four (4) pupils in winning the Zero Waste Management Campaign because the four pupils placed their seedlings in recycled materials. They were given certificates and prizes for their outstanding involvement.

After these activities, Mr. Manuel offered snacks. They had a meeting with Ms, Utleg, Ms. Exmundo and Mr. Calaramo. They discussed about the other incoming follow up activities.

The group went home very tired but happy.

The group left Caribquib at 2:00 P.M.

The COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION of Northwestern University Coordinated with the Municipal Mayor of Banna, Ilocos Norte

At 9:00 o’clock in the morning of September 29, 2011, Ms. Catalina Exmundo, the Assistant Director of RCEIAD, Mr. Michael Jay Calaramo, the Manager of the Ecotourism and botanical Garden of Northwestern University and Prof. Flordelina B. Utleg, the CTE-SO Adviser and Community Extension Cooridnator, left the university campus to the office of the municipal mayor of Banna, Hon. Carlito N. Abadilla.

When they reached the municipality, they immediately went to the office of the secretary of the Mayor for a courtesy call. The Secretary led them to the office of the Mayor, Hon. Carlito N. Abadilla. The Mayor welcomed the group with a smile and he let them sit when they were already in front of him.

Ms. Exmundo discussed with the mayor and other municipality officials about the continuous tree planting and landscaping project of Northwestern University that will be done in Paraiso ti Caribquib,. The Mayor told them that they can do everything for the improvement of the place. He also informed them that the DILG has a counterpart amounting to One million pesos and also the municipality will give also One million pesos for the management of the tourism industry and also in the plan to put up a souvenir shop. Ms. Exmundo requested from the Mayor to finance the reproduction of flyers to promote the project and he was very much willing.

The group left the municipal hall at 12:15 noon. They took their lunch at the “carinderia” in Banna. The group left Banna at 1:10 PM.

CONTINUOUS TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY AND ASSISTANCE IN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE BARANGAY NURSERY CARIBQUIB, BANNA, ILOCOS NORTE BY THE COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION STUDENT ORGANIZATION OF NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY ON OCTOBER 9, 2011

The College of Teacher Education Student Organization (CTE-SO), Physical Education Sports Development Organization (PESDO) group left the university campus at 8:00 o’clock in the morning headed by the CTE-SO adviser and Community Extension Coordinator, Prof. Flordelina B. Utleg, PESDO adviser, Prof. Leticia Lourd Chiong, Manager of the Ecotourism Park and Botanical Garden, Mr. Michael Jay Calaramo and the Assistant Director of Community Extension, Ms. Catalina Exmundo.

They dropped by the market to buy eleven (11) kilos of rambutan. Mr. Calaramo demonstrated how to eat without damaging the seed. The purpose of this was for the barangay nursery. On their way going to Caribquib, Prof. Chiong and Mariecris Duldulao, the CTE-SO treasurer distributed the rambutan to the group. The students were happy as they ate the rambutan. Their delight was doubled as they eaten fully all the fruits without damaging the seeds

When they reached Paraiso ti Caribquib, the students brought down all the seedlings and the manager oriented them on how to conserve Philippine forest and preserve wildlife and fireflies. He informed them that rambutan, lanzones, jackfruit, lychees, sarguelas, durian,pakak, bittaog, talisay (salaysay),buttong, baliti, bulala are some of the indigenous trees. Caimito and chesa are not native but they were introduced in the Philippines; alukon is endemic because it is found only in Luzon; pakak wood is used in making guitars. The mango that we call “native mango” is not true because this fruit came from India and avocado is a native tree of South America. He also informed the body that fireflies are rarely seen now because of the lack native of trees now. Eucalyptus, mahogany and gymelina have been introduced.

He also informed the group that Siccapo in Solsona, Ilocos Norte, is the highest mountain in Ilocos Norte which is about 2,000 feet above sea level; second highest mountain is Mt. Pao in Adams, Ilocos Norte which is about 1,200 feet above sea level and the third is Mt. Malemlem in Adams, about 1,100 feet above sea level.

After the orientation, the students classified the seedlings according to their species. They counted them and there were 5 pieces of caimito; 31-mango; 7-guava; 10-papaya; 5-chico; 5-chesa; 12-calamansi; 33-atis; and 4-buwatchina. After this, they carried all the seedlings to the area where they would be planted.

The male students went with Mr. Calaramo to plant the seedlings and the rest went with Ms. Exmundo to the barangay nursery. The students tilled the soil first before they sowed the seeds of the rambutan.

The group took their lunch after planting all the seedlings and sowing the seeds in the nursery.

THE COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION STUDENT ORGANIZATION CONDUCTED A SEMINAR IN PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT AND HELD TREE PLANTING IN PARAISO TI CARIBQUIB, CARIBQUIB, BANNA, ILOCOS NORTE ON OCTOBER 15, 2011

The CTE group headed by the CTE-SO Adviser and Community Extension Coordinator, Prof.Flordelina B. Utleg left Banna Jeepney Terminal at 7:00 o’clock in the morning. When they reached the Barangay Hall, Mr. Michael Jay Calaramo, the Manager of Ecotourism Park of Northwestern University, was there already.

The group of Ms. Utleg waited for the barangay officials to finish their monthly regular session. When the session was finished, they started the seminar on Personality Development with the topics on “Positive Attitude” and “How to Entertain Tourists/Visitors, Dos and Don’ts”.

The seminar started with a prayer led by Ms. Nicolasa Evangelista, a Kagawad member followed by a welcome address by Delfina Vicente, also a Kagawad member.

The members of the group distributed the copy of the topics to all of the participants. Prof. Utleg greeted them before she started the seminar. She explained line by line and the participants were very participative during the discussion. All of them reacted when she was discussing on “Know how to say I love you”. She explained that saying “I love you or hugging and kissing” are also ways of saying “thank you”. She requested them to say “I love you, Kapitan” and they were all very excited and said “I love you, Kapitan” and the Brgy. Chairman, Hon. Adonis B. Manuel faced them with a smile and in return, he said also, “I love you, too”. Then each of them said “I love you” to the person seated beside them.

Another topic that aroused the interest of the group was the discussion on “Be considerate and be flexible”. She told them that they must see to it that their companion is in the proper mood before making or cracking a joke. One barangay council made the comment that all husbands and wives should attend the seminar to improve their relationships.

Hon. Manuel reacted on the topic, “Accept criticism”. He faced the cooks and told them, “So if I will tell you that the food you cooked is very salty, then don’t pout and hate me because how can you improve the taste if you do not accept criticism”. The cooks smiled at him saying “yes” with the glow in their eyes.

Before the seminar ended, she asked them if they learned something. They answered her that they learned so much and they enjoyed and were not bored unlike other seminars they had attended. The resource speaker really noticed that they enjoyed through their reactions. They were very attentive and participative. They interrupted her during the discussion to ask questions and she immediately answered them and they were very much enlightened.

The seminar was indeed a very successful one because all the barangay officials, purok presidents, barangay health workers, and vendors attended.

Thirty (30) minutes before the seminar ended, the group of Mr. Calaramo arrived. They stayed near the venue of the seminar and they listened too. Mr. Calaramo felt happy because he noticed also the reactions of the participants.

Hon. Manuel asked the group that they will take their lunch before they leave so they accepted the offer. Prof. Utleg led the prayer before they ate.

The group left the venue at 1:30 PM.

THE COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION OF NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY HELD TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY AND ASSISTED ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE BARANGAY NURSERY IN PARAISO TI CARIBQUIB, CARIBQUIB, BANNA, ILOCOS NORTE ON OCTOBER 19, 2011

The College of Teacher Education Student Organization (CTE-SO), Physical Education Sports Development Organization (PESDO) group left the university campus at 8:00 o’clock in the morning headed by the CTE-SO adviser and Community Extension Coordinator, Prof. Flordelina B. Utleg. They rode in the University dump truck. They fetch Mr. Michael Jay Calaramo, the Manager of Northwestern University Ecotourism Park and Botanical Garden, in Apaya, Laoag City and also fetched Prof. Leticia Lourd Chiong, the PESDO adviser, in their house. It was a cloudy day and it rained when the group was on their way. Though it was raining, the students were still excited to go to Caribquib. The rain stopped when they were in Marcos, Ilocos Norte. The advisers and the manager noted the sacrifices of the students to help in the continuous planting activity because though it was raining, they dared to go wet and proceeded on the activity. Their enthusiasm was not dampened by the rain.

On their way, they stopped in a bakery shop and bought bakery products for their snacks. They took their early snacks on during the trip because almost of them did not take their breakfast.

When they reached Paraiso ti Caribquib, they brought down all the flowering plants (birds of paradise, laya-laya or langkwas) and planted them along the way going to the cottages. Some of the plants have flowers already. The group had their snacks after they planted all the plants.

TREE PLANTING AND MONITORING THE BARANGAY NURSERY IN PARAISO TI CARIBQUIB, CARIBQUIB, BANNA, ILOCOS NORTE BY THE COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION OF NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY ON DECEMBER 10, 2011

The CTE-SO officers left Laoag City at 8:00 o’clock in the morning headed by the CTE-SO adviser, Prof. Flordelina B. Utleg. Upon reaching Paraiso ti Caribquib, the Adviser went immediately to the seedling bed. She was surprised when she saw that the seeds of Eleven (11) kilos of Rambutan they sowed on October 9, 2011 already sprouted and grew. She measured the seedlings and they were already Six (6) inches in height. Then she also went to monitor the fruit bearing trees as well as the flowering plants and she was very happy that the latter, some have already flowers.

Barangay Chairman, Adonis Manuel informed the adviser that MMSU students will also arrive and plant trees. He told that he will send them to plant at the west of the zipline.

When the group of students enrolled in Ecotourism subject from Northern Christian College (NCC) saw the group of students from Northwestern, they told them that they also wanted to experience planting because they are also enrolled in Ecotourism. The attention of Mr. Michael Calaramo, the Manager of Ecotourism Park and Botanical Garden of Northwestern University was called, that students from NCC would also like to plant and the latter instructed them to get langkwas plants along the road going to Banna proper so she accompanied them. They put the plants in sacks.

They planted the langkwas at the northern side of the road going to the zipline. The students were very happy with their experience. They told that they do not have Tree Planting program in their school. They wore their T-shirt printed with Ecotourism BSTHRT. They took a group picture before they went home. They told the CTE-SO adviser that they will join the tree planting when they will have again so the adviser told them that she is planning to plant santan plants from the highway going to Paraiso on January 21, 2012 for beautification as well as to monitor again the rambutan seedlings as well as the planted fruit bearing trees and flowering plants.

While the Adviser was monitoring the plants planted along the way going to zipline, she saw the big bird in a cage and the Barangay Chairman, Hon. Adonis Manuel told her that the name of the bird is Philippine Serpent Eagle. It was given by Ms. Myrna Gonzales of Macayepyep. The bird was so weak when a child saw it under a tree. The child brought it home. The Chairman informed the adviser that they are feeding the eagle with fish and meat. He will put it in the big cage when it is already strong. The Adviser suggested that there must be a mini zoo.

When Prof. Utleg tried to talk to the eagle, it tried to fly and fly and seemed happy. Hon. Manuel told her that they will transfer the eagle when it is already strong.

The Barangay Chairman thanked the group of the CTE-SO including the adviser and he invited them to attend their Barangay fiesta. He requested also that the adviser will be the one to introduce the Guest Speaker, the Mayor of Banna, Hon. Carlito N. Abadilla and the latter accepted it. She told him also that they will go and monitor again the growth and percentage of survival of the seedlings and the other plants on that day.

The group left Caribquib at 11:00 AM.

THE COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION STUDENT ORGANIZATION OF NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY MONITORED THE BRGY NURSERY,PLANTED SEEDLINGS AND FLOWERING PLANTS IN PARAISO TI CARIBQUIB, CARIBQUIB, BANNA, ILOCOS NORTE by Flordelina B. Utleg- January 7, 2012

The CTE-SO officers together with their adviser, Prof. Flordelina B. Utleg, met early in the morning (6:30AM.) of December 22, 2011 at the New Banna Terminal for the next monitoring of the established barangay nursery and the planted seedlings in Paraiso ti Caribquib.

When they reached Caribquib Barangay Hall, the Brgy. Chairman, Hon. Adonis B. Manuel, welcomed them with a sweet smile. The Barangay Officials offered them to take breakfast. Prof. Utleg blessed the food. After the breakfast, the group asked permission from the Bgy. Chairman that they will go to Paraiso to monitor the seedlings and plants.

When the group reached the place, they immediately went to the seedling bed and they were very happy because the rambutan seedlings have grown already. And they asked their adviser if when will they plant and the latter said that maybe they will plant after two to three months. They roamed around the Paraiso to monitor the seedlings and flowering plants they had planted during the previous months. The group found out that all the fruit bearing trees survived and some of the flowering plants have now flowers.

That day was the second day of Caribquib Barangay Fiesta. There was a part of the program for the presentation of Northwestern University. Romelyn dela Cruz, the CTESO President, Mariecris Duldulao, the CTESO Treasurer and Cherry Mae Ranga, the ASTER President, rendered a song entitled, “I Can”.

Prof. Flordelina B. Utleg, delivered her Introduction of the Guest Speaker in Ilocano because the Bgy. Chairman requested her to use Ilocano dialect. The audience was very attentive listening to her. Before she presented the Guest Speaker, she asked permission from the audience composed of thousands of people to allow her to deliver a poem. During the delivery of her poem, she noticed that the guest speaker had a very sweet smile looking at her with his seatmates and also she heard positive comments from the people near her.

When the poem was finished, she presented the Guest Speaker, the ever beloved Mayor of Banna, Hon. Carlito Nolasco Abadilla. The guest speaker stood up immediately with a smile and shook the hand of Prof. Utleg and he said, “ thank you for the best introduction.”

During his speech, he thanked Northwestern University for helping Paraiso ti Caribquib in developing the place to make it more beautiful.

After the raffle draw, the group from Northwestern University headed by Prof. Flordelina B. Utleg was called in front to award the Certificates of Attendance to the Barangay Officials who attended the Seminar on Personality Development which was held on October 15, 2011. Cherry Mae Ranga read the contents of the certificates before they were handed to the participants.

During the distribution of certificates, they requested the adviser to conduct another seminar on Personality Development again because they learned a lot from it. The group handed all the certificates of the pupils and students who participated during the tree planting activities and Prof. Utleg told the Principal of Caribquib Elementary School, Mrs. Vilma Delos Reyes Bagay, that the certificates will be awarded during their Recognition Day.

The program was very great. There was a part of the program, a presentation from Northwestern University. Romelyn dela Cruz, the CTE-SO President, Mariecris Duldulao, the CTE-SO Treasuruer, and Cherry Mae Ranga, the CTE ASTER President, delivered a song entitiled, “I Can.” The group joined the dance program and the adviser was asked to decorate some of the Princesses.

There was a dance competition in “Kendeng-kendeng” by the different “Puroks” and prizes were given to the winners.

Hon. Adonis B. Manuel delivered the Closing Remarks. He thanked Northwestern University for helping his barangay most especially in the development of “Paraiso.” He requested that Northwestern University would continue its community extension services to them so that Paraiso ti Caribquib will be visited by more tourists.

Before Mayor Abadilla went home, he went to the group of Prof. Utleg to ask when they would come again to Paraiso. She said that they will go back when the proposal for livelihood program ( hair cutting, making flower décor, nail arting) will be approved.

Barangay Kagawad, Rolando Ranga and Barangay Chairman, Hon. Adonis B. Manuel, brought the group to Laoag City. The group greeted the Chairman a happy birthday by singing the “Happy Birthday” song on their way to Laoag. He expressed his thank and wished that Northwestern University will not stop in helping them.

The Barangay Fiesta was indeed a very successful one. The group was well entertained. They never got hungry because they were always offered snacks and meals. It was a very great and unforgettable experience for the CTE-SO officers and adviser

MEDICAL AND DENTAL OUTREACH PROGRAM BY: FLORDELINA B. UTLEG APRIL 21, 2017

On April 17, 2013, Flordelina B. Ulteg, the CTE/VJSSGS Community Extension Coordinator sent a letter with the attached Project Proposal to Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) to solicit medicines for the Medical and Dental Outreach. The letter was noted by by Dr. Estrella R. Calixto, the Dean of CTE and Dr. Elsie C. Pilar, the Dean of VJSSGS.

The request was granted so the extension coordinator sent her two valid ID (Social Security System and Northwestern University) and Authorization Letter to Dr. Flosie Carmen, one of the personnel of PCSO through E-mail authorizing Dr.Pillar to get the solicited medicines from their office.

On May 26, 2013 at 10:00 o’clock at the CTE/VJSSGS office, the CTE/VJSSGS extension coordinator instructed the members of the different committees. At 12:30 NN, the group from Northwestern University left the campus going to Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte spearheaded by Flordelina B. Utleg, Dr. Estrella R. Calixto and Prof. Zenaida I. Franco, the Principal of the High School Laboratory and a Professor of the VJSSGS. Some of the beneficiaries were already at the Barangay Health Center when the group arrived.

Dr. Pedrico Chellie Calaycay, the University Dentist stayed at the western part of the health center while Dr. Emma Joy Bareng, the University Physician and Dr. Remedios Peralta, the doctor of the Municipality of Banna stayed at the northern part. The committee on attendance gave numbers to the beneficiaries. The latter waited for their numbers to be called so they could be attended to by the nurses and doctors.

The university nurses took the blood pressure of the beneficiaries before they went to the doctors for their check up. Most of the patients had cough and colds and some had fever and had high blood pressure. The doctors gave the prescription to the beneficiaries and the latter went to the pharmacist for the medicines prescribed by the doctors. They gave vitamins to the children.

The university dentist had discussed on how to brush the teeth properly before the tooth extraction.

The committee on evaluation stayed at the Office of the Brgy. Chairman. They helped the beneficiaries by elaborating the questions to the beneficiaries. Some of the beneficiaries wrote their testimonies to express their feelings and thanks to the university.

The undistributed medicines were left at the Brgy. Health Center through the Barangay Health Worker and to the Barangay Chairman, Hon. Adonis B. Manuel, to be given to the residents to use if they get sick.

All the beneficiaries were grateful and very happy for the activities.

The group from Northwestern University visited Paraiso ti Caribquib before they went home.

ESTABLISHMENT OF MEDICINAL GARDEN,SEEDLING PRODUCTION, TREE PLANTING AND LANDSCAPING (PHASE 1) BY: FLORDELINA B. UTLEG APRIL 21, 2017

The College of Teacher Education (CTE) and Vedasto J. Samonte School of Graduate Studies (VJSSGS) students headed by Flordelina B. Utleg, the CTE/VJSSGS Extension Coordinator, left the university campus at 8:30 in the morning on August 4, 2013 for the Establishment of Medicinal Garden and Landscaping in Paraiso ti Caribquib, Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte.

When the group reached Paraiso, the barangay folks spearheaded by Hon. Adonis B. Manuel, the barangay chairman, were busy clearing the area where seedlings of fruit bearing and forest trees during the previous years were planted. The officials greeted the group and were very grateful because of their continuous help in the development of the tourist attraction, Paraiso.

The group was divided into two (two). One group went to the nursery to weed the area and arrange the seedlings. They planted fifty seeds of guapple. The extension coordinator with Mariecris Duldulao, an alumni led the other group to the southern part of the area of the zipline for the Establishment of the Medicinal Garden. The students were very excited to cross in the hanging bridge. The community folks cleaned the area for the medicinal garden. Mariecris led the students to plant. The students classified the plants according to species. They planted 20 Aloevera, 9 oregano, 2 kutchay and 2 dahong Maria in one area.

After the establishment of the medicinal garden, the students went to help the community folks in landscaping the place. They planted 65 ornamental plants near the videoke center. After the activities, the barangay officials served snacks to the students and faculty members and thanked them for their unending support in the development of Paraiso.

Some of the students rode in the zipline, compliments of the Brgy. Chairman after they took their lunch at the cottages. The students were so glad for their experiences.

When the group was about to leave the place, it drizzled so they were very happy because they said that the plants will survive more easily. They left Paraiso at 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon and it rained on their way home to Laoag.

ESTABLISHMENT OF MEDICINAL GARDEN,SEEDLING PRODUCTION, TREE PLANTING AND LANDSCAPING (PHASE 2) BY: FLORDELINA B. UTLEG APRIL 21, 2017

The group from Northwestern headed by the CTE/VJSSGS extension coordinator, Flordelina B. Utleg, and the CTE Dean/VJSSGS Program Coordinator, Dr. Estrrella R. Calixto, went to Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte at 8:30 in the morning of August 25, 2013 for the continuation of establishment of medicinal garden, landscaping/tree planting and seedling production.

The community folks were busy cleaning the area going to the zipline when the Northwestern University group arrived. The extension coordinator approached the Brgy. Chairman, Adonis Manuel. They got instructions about where to plant the 14 rambutan seedlings. The chairman told her that the holes for the seedlings were ready for planting because the coordinator texted him at the night of August 24, 2013 informing him that the group would be going the following morning.

The group planted fourteen (14) rambutan seedlings at the northern side along the way going to the zipline. The students planted the seedlings in the holes that were dug by the folks while the twenty (20) buachina seedlings that were donated by the VJSSGS program coordinator and CTE dean were planted along the lane going to the zipline.

After planting the seedlings, the extension coordinator and program coordinator led the students to the medicinal garden near the end of the zipline area. Mariecris Duldulao, an alumni, led the students to plant five (5) cuttings of oregano which were donated by the program coordinator. She promised to the group that she will give them more buachina seedlings for the next extension activity. The students also planted eight (8) aloevera from Doan Mae Abian, a CTE student.

While the students were planting the medicinal plants, Dr. Calixto sliced the guapples that she brought and called them to eat after the planting. The students washed their hands and they went to the table. The VJSSGs program coordinator also brought bakery products for their snacks. She is a very supportive, kind and patient dean and program coordinator to college/school activities.

After the planting activity, the extension coordinator led the students in the nursery to monitor the growth bittaog seedlings. Out of the fifty (50) bittaog seedlings, twenty five (25) were able to survive; aloevera-20; oregano-9; kutchay-2; dahong Maria-2 and all the 65 ornamental plants survived.

The group went home at 1:00 PM.

ESTABLISHMENT OF MEDICINAL GARDEN,SEEDLING PRODUCTION, TREE PLANTING AND LANDSCAPING (PHASE 3) BY: FLORDELINA B. UTLEG APRIL 21, 2017

The College of Teacher Education (CTE) and Vedasto J. Samonte School of Graduate Studies (VJSSGS) students headed by Flordelina B. Utleg, the CTE/VJSSGS Extension Coordinator, left the university campus at 8:30 in the morning on September 15, 2013 for the continuation of the community extension in establishing medicinal garden, seedling production, tree planting/landscaping in Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte.

The students preferred to buy rambutan rather than to buy rambutan seedlings because the costs of one rambutan seedling is sixty pesos (P 60.00). They bought five (5) kilos of rambutan which had fifty (55) seeds.

The group was divided into three groups. The first group stayed in the nursery, the second group went to the medicinal garden and the third group did the tree planting.

Mariecris Duldulao, an alumni, led the first group for the seedling production and Flordelina B. Utleg, the CTE/VJSSGS extension coordinator stayed with them for few minutes Mariecris told to the students to water the soil before they till. When the soil was ready, Mariecris instructed the students to till the soil before they planted the seeds. She demonstrated how to plant the seeds and the other students followed. They planted the rambutan seeds.

Levirata Batil, the CTE-SO President led the second group at the medicinal garden and the dean went with them. Levirata instructed the students to clean the area first before they planted the 10 cuttings of oregano.

The adviser led the third group and told the students and the beneficiaries to plant the 10 seedlings of buwatsina along the way going to the zipline.

When the three groups had already finished their assigned tasks, they planted the seventy (70) pieces of birds of paradise on one side of the way going to the zipline where they stopped planting on August 25, 2013.

The group went home at 12:10 PM.

ESTABLISHMENT OF MEDICINAL GARDEN,SEEDLING PRODUCTION, TREE PLANTING AND LANDSCAPING (PHASE 4) BY: FLORDELINA B. UTLEG APRIL 21, 2017

At 8:00 in the morning of September 22, 2013, Flordelina B. Utleg, the CTE/VJSSGS Extension Coordinator, and the students decided to go for the community extension in Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte although it was raining. The rain stopped when the jeep arrived at the NU Science gate. They left the campus at 8:30 AM.

On their way to Banna, the coordinator instructed the students what to do so that they can easily finish the activities.

When they arrived in the parking area, the students brought all the plants to the area where they planted. They continued to plant seventy five (75) birds of pardise where they stopped planting on September 15, 2013. The barangay folks dug holes and the students planted the ornamental plants until everything was planted. They proceeded to the medicinal garden and planted eight (8) aloevera and to the nursery to plant the seedlings of fruit bearing trees, 3 avocados.

The students worked as fast as they could because it was drizzling and it seemed that a heavy rain was coming.

They left the area at 12:00 NN.

COMMEMORATIVE TREE PLANTING NATIONAL ARBOR DAY 2015 BY: FLORDELINA B. UTLEG APRIL 21, 2017

In line with the celebration of Arbor Day, June 25, 2015, the CTE and VJSSGS faculty and students are convinced that trees are very important so they decided to plant trees to spread the love and respect for nature in caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte. The CTE-SO officers coordinated with the CEC office and the Brgy. Chair of Caribquib and PENRO for saplings for this purpose.

The students, teachers and guest were welcomed by the barangay chair, Mr. Adonis Manuel then Ms. Flordelina B. Utleg, the CTE/VJSSGS extension coordinator, greeted everybody and discussed about the activity. After a short discussion, she asked Ms. Agustina Matias to lead a prayer and after which Mr. Michael Calaramo, the Ecosystem Management and Development Officer decided the seedlings to be planted in the mini forest of Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte. He oriented the audience on how to plant the seedlings properly. He also claimed that the trees brought by the university to be planted are trees exported by the country because of its unique characteristics and strong hold to the country’s climate.

Without further ado, Mr. Michael started distributing the seedlings to students, teachers and the residents of Caribquib. Every student and teacher held their seedlings while the folks dug holes for them to plant their seedlings. They helped each other find a beautiful and healthy spot for their seedlings. After planting the seedling, a wooden name tag was placed to identify the plant. Some students and teachers wrote their names on the wooden name tag. The students as well as the teachers and guest enjoyed the activity.

After the planting activity, the faculty, students, barangay officials and folks returned to the area where the group of Prof. Ma. Liza S. Nicolas, Vice-President for Administration of NWU and the Municipal Mayor of Banna, Hon. Carlito Abadilla II were waiting.

Mr. Calaramo asked Ms. Catalina Exmundo, Community Extension Center Management Officer, to discuss the scope of the extension program of the university. Ms. Exmundo also announced that the activity was supported by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Prof. Ma. Liza S. Nicolas delivered her inspirational message and after which, the Mayor also delivered his Inspirational Message and words of thank to Northwestern University. The Mayor said that the community was very happy to know that the university is making its efforts to extend its support and assistance to Caribquib. He also thanked the students and teachers who cooperated and helped made the program successful.

The activity ended with a joyful picture taking with all the participants of the event.

PLANTING OF MALUNGGAY CUTTINGS CUM LANDSCAPING/BEAUTIFICATION/TRANSPLANTING/SEEDLING PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF MEDICINAL GARDEN BY: FLORDELINA B. UTLEG APRIL 21, 2017

The College of Teacher Education in partnership with Data Center College of the Philippines together with the RCEIAD personnel held an extension activity last September 5, 2015 at their extension community, Banna, Caribquib.

The bus departed at 8:00 o’clock in the morning from the university and the team arrived at Caribquib, Banna at exactly 9:00 AM.

Ms. Flordelina B. Utleg, the CTE/VJSSGS extension coordinator, divided the group of the CTE students into four (4) groups; group for planting of malunngay cuttings; landscaping; seedling production and for the development of the medicinal garden.

The barangay folks headed by Mr. Adonis B. Manuel, the Brgy. Chair. helped the students by digging holes for the malunngay cuttings to be planted. They were able to plant One hundred seventy eight (178) cuttings of malunggay.

Ms. Romelyn de la Cruz, an alumna of the College of the Teacher Education of Northwestern University and is now teaching at Data Center College of the Philippines, Laoag Branch, guided her students in planting the malunggay cuttings.

Officers of the CTE-SO brought seedlings of atis (6); 6 guyabano and 10 mabolo. The Nursery was cleaned and organized by the group. The seedlings were arranged at the nursery according to their sizes. The group wrote the name of the seedlings on the wooden name tag.

After the activity at the nursery, Ms. Utleg and the group proceeded to the place to be landscaped. Bulbs of the Birds of Paradise plants were replanted along the way going to the starting point of the Zipline.

Jeffrey Bumanglag was the leader of the group. The group pulled out all the medicinal plants and replanted them by arranging according to their species. They cleaned the area and wrote also the name of the medicinal plants on the wooden name tag. The beneficiaries helped the students.

After planting the seedlings and cleaning the area, the students took their time to appreciate their fruits of labour and endeavours as they took pictures. The Barangay Folks acknowledged the extension services rendered by the students of CTE, VJSSGS, DCCP and RCEIAD personnel.

Ms. Utleg went to the barangay hall to attend the meeting with Mr. Adonis B. Manuel, the Brgy. Chair, together with RCEIAD personnel. Ms. De la Cruz asked the date for the 2nd phase of the malunggay tree planting and the coordinator assured them that they will continue after a week. Mr. Manuel requested to have a seminar on how to take care of the planted malunggay cuttings when they have already leaves. He also requested the group on food processing of malunggay leaves and also the fruits. Ms. Utleg promised that his request will be granted.

After the meeting, the barangay officials thanked the group of their unending support to their community. They served snacks to the group.

The activity ended at 11:30 am and the bus departed exactly at 12:00 noon.

FOOD PROCESSING ON MALUNGGAY LEAVES:ICE CREAM, PANCAKE AND GELATIN BY: FLORDELINA B. UTLEG APRIL 21, 2017

Last September 9, 2015, the CTE/VJSSGS, conducted planting of malunggay cuttings, seedling production, landscaping and development of medicinal garden. After the activities, the CTE/VJSSGS extension coordinator together with the RCEIAD personnel had a meeting with the barangay officials headed by Mr. Adonis B. Manuel, the barangay chair. Mr. Manuel requested the group to conduct a seminar on food processing about malunggay leaves. The CTE/VJSSGS coordinator relayed this request to Ms. Catalina Exmuindo, the Community Extension Manager and she approved it.

On October 24, 2015, the beneficiaries were already at the barangay hall waiting for the group from the university. Food processing demonstration on malunggay leaves was done as the second phase of the malunggay tree planting. Ms. Flordelina B. Utleg, the CTE/VJSSGS extension distributed handouts about malunggay leaves/fruits , the ingredients and procedures on how to make malunggay ice cream.

Gilbert Tomas, an alumnus of the university, demonstrated how to make malunggay ice cream while Marinela Siazon, a 4th year CTE student demonstrated how to make malunggay pancake and malunggay gelatin. The beneficiaries were very attentive and interested during the demonstration.

During the demonstration on malunggay ice cream, the demonstrator showed how to measure the sugar and other ingredients. The beneficiaries watched when he was cooking the sugar with water to make a syrup. When the syrup was made, he showed how to blend the malunggay leaves and how to strain the blended malunggay leaves to get the juice. He mixed all the ingredients and blended with the malunggay juice. The beneficiaries took canisters and the demonstrator put the juice and the beneficiaries put in the freezer of Cherry Mae Ranga, an alumna of CTE.

Ms. Siazon showed how to cut the malunggay leaves and how to measure and mix the ingredients like flour, sugar, milk, nestle cream and nuts. The beneficiaries watched when she was cooking. She also added vanilla for flavoring. She demonstrated also how to make gelatin out of malunggay leaves, after which it was refrigerated again in the refrigerator of the CTE alumna, Cherry Mae Ranga.

After sometime, Ms. Enriqueta Gaygay, the Brgy. Council Secretary called the CTE/VJSSGS coordinator, that the malunggay ice cream and gelatin were delicious and some of the barangay folks with gusto.

The beneficiaries were very grateful to Northwestern University for all the skills that they acquired. They requested again the group to demonstrate on meat processing in making longganisa, embutido and morchon.

The group was very happy because they had shared their knowledge and skills to the beneficiaries.

MEDICAL AND DENTAL OUTREACH BY: FLORDELINA B. UTLEG APRIL 21, 2017

On June 9, 2015, Ms. Flordelina B. Utleg, the CTE/VJSSGS community extension coordinator solicited medicines from Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Manila through the help of Dr. Elsie C. Pilar, the Acting Director of RECEIAD. The coordinator was very grateful to Hon. Jose Ferdinand Rojas II, the General Manager of PCSO, for his unending support to the extension program of the college.

On May 18, 2015, Jean Kathrine Q. Macugay, the CTE-SO President, went to the office of Hon. Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Hon. Imelda R. Marcos and Hon. Imee R. Marcos to solicit medicines. Ms. Macugay picked-up the solicited medicines last June 11, 2015.

On June 22, 2015, the PCSO donated eighty (80) vaccines of anti pneumonia. The vaccines were injected to the beneficiaries of Caribquib, Banna by the nurses of the municipality after the tree planting on June 25, 2015 in celebration of the National Arbor Day.

The PCSO donated also eighty five (85) vaccines of anti-flu and three (3) cartoons of different kinds of medicines and vitamins for children and adults.

The students, faculty and staff of the College of Teacher Education (CTE) , CTE Alumni, NWU-LES, staff of medical and dental clinic, RCEIAD personnel of Northwestern University held a medical and dental mission on October 10, 2015 at Brgy. Caribquib Banna, Ilocos Norte. When the students of CTE/VJSSGS were still at the CTE office, Ms. Flordelina B. Utleg, the CTE/VJSSGS community extension coordinator instructed them that Jovelyn Salmorin and Generose Duldulao will be in-charged at the registration table; Juan Carlo Tabios III and Allan Ventura will assist the pharmacist to give medicines to the beneficiaries; Leslee Bumanglag and Lovely Queen Julian – in-charge of attendance; Jeffrey Bumanglag, John Sinang and Joey Ganitano -in-charge of the snacks and Jean Kathrine Q. Macugay will assists in calling the name of the beneficiaries on a first come first serve basis.

The bus departed at 12:30 in the afternoon. The team arrived at Brgy. Caribquib Banna, Ilocos Norte at 1:30 PM. They prepared immediately the things needed for the medical and dental mission. The team was divided into two (2) groups: the group for dental and group for the medical check-up. Ms. Janet Dantis stayed at the registration table with the students.

The beneficiaries fall in line for the registration and they were served on first come first serve basis. The nursing students took the blood pressure (BP) of the beneficiaries (adult) before they they went to the doctor. Dr. Emma Joy Bareng, the university physician, asked about the health condition of the beneficiaries. She checked up them and gave prescription after the consultation. The three nurses from the municipality of Banna helped in injecting the anti-flu vaccines to the beneficiaries.

Dr. Pedrico Chelly Calaycay, the university dentist, had a brief discussion on how to brush properly the teeth and what causes tooth decay. After the discussion, he distributed fifty (50) free toothbrush and fifty (50) toothpaste to the beneficiaries. When he was able to distribute all, he started to check-up the patients and extracted their teeth if it is needed.

The students of the Physical Therapy checked-up the beneficiaries for the scoliosis.

The barangay officials served snacks during the activity. They were very grateful to the college/university for this kind of extension program because it is a great help to their less fortunate fellow residents. The barangay officials and the beneficiaries requested that CTE/VJSSGS should continue to help their barangay by rendering their different extension services/programs every year.

The medicines that were not distributed were handed to Jaylene Saclayan, the Barangay Health Worker, for future use of the residents..

The activity ended at 5:00 PM. The group went home with happiness because they were joking in the bus while traveling despite their tiredness.

LECTURE/DEMO ON PROCESSING OF MORINGA LEAVES CUM ENHANCEMENT OF HERBAL MEDICINAL GARDEN/TREE PLANTING BY: FLORDELINA B. UTLEG APRIL 21, 2017

In order to sustain the tree planting and medicinal garden that the proponent had conducted in the barangay, a seminar on food processing using moringa leaves as main ingredient and enhancement of the herbal medicinal garden was conducted. As a continuation of the program, the proponent shared their knowledge on how to make refreshing shakes/tea and other food products using the moringa leaves as main ingredient. Along with the lecture demo on food processing of moringa leaves, an enhancement of the herbal garden was also conducted. There are a number of advantages that one may gain from the creation of an herb garden and growing of moringa leaves which is also considered as herbal plant. An herb garden can be a very attractive addition to the barangay, and if constructed properly, it can actually benefit the community of its medicinal benefits. By investing a small amount of money, time, energy, and space, they can save a tremendous amount of money over the long term by growing their own herbs. While other people continue to use synthetic medications which were produced in a laboratory, they can use natural herbs which come from nature itself.

On August 20, 2016, CTE and VJSSGS faculty and students of Northwestern University gathered at 7:30 in the morning for the community extension program in Brgy. Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte and they left the university campus at exactly 8:00 o’clock headed by the CTE/VJSSGS community extension coordinator, Ms. Flordelina B. Utleg.

NWU team was welcomed by the barangay officials headed by the Brgy. Chairman Lorna Bueno and right after, the activities started. The enhancement of the medicinal garden and demonstration on processing of malunggay leaves were done simultaneously. The enhancement of the medicinal garden was headed by Dr. Shirley Mina and Dr. Esmeralda Albano Baldonado, both professors of the CTE and VJSSGS along with the Non-Academic Staff headed by Ms. Amerly Dumlao, Extension Coordinator of the Non-Academic Unit. The demonstration on processing of malunggay leaves was headed by the extension coordinator of CTE/VJSSGS.

Before the landscaping of the medicinal garden, Mr. Michael Calaramo, the manager of the Eco-Tourism and Botanical Garden of NWU oriented the faculty, staff, and students on how to plant the herbal medicinal plants. The faculty and students of CTE/VJSSGS together with the non-academic staff cooperatively planted the different herbal medicinal plants such as oregano, tanglad, herba maria, mayana, kutsay, dangla, aloe vera, pancit pancitan, basil, rhoea discolor, atis and guyabano.

The lecture/demo on processing of moringa leaves started with the discussion of the rationale of the activity by Mr. Melvin Apiado, the Secretary of Young Educators Society (YES) after which, he introduced the demonstrators. Ms. Jovelyn C. Salmorin, the President of YES, demonstrated the moringa flavor shake. After her demonstration, Ms. Salmorin gave the beneficiaries and students a taste test and they said it was delicious. The second demonstrators were Zhanaynge Klei Apostol, the Vice-President and Neliza Benito, a member of the organization. They demonstrated on how to make moringa tea while Leslee Bumanglag, a 4th year representative, demonstrated moringa flavor coffee. All the tasters said it was delicious. Last to demonstrate was Ms. Susan Bonifacio, the community extension program coordinator, she demonstrated the moringa burger patties. The beneficiaries and students helped in the preparation of the ingredients. The participants watched the demonstrator while she was cooking the patties. When the patties were cooked already, Neliza Benito sliced it and allowed the participants to have a taste test.

After the seminar, the CTE faculty and students turned over the donated 10-meter net to the Brgy. Chairman of Caribquib. The net shall serve as a protection for the herbal garden against other elements that might destroy the garden. It was agreed by the proponents and the community that installation of the net shall be the responsibility of the barangay. Dr. Esmeralda Albano Baldonado and Dr. Shirley Mina, both CTE and VJSSGS professors also distributed free clothes courtesy of Dr. Mina to the beneficiaries. The beneficiaries were very grateful for the free seminar rendered by the proponents. The proponents were also contented because of the positive comment of the beneficiaries.

LITERACY PROGRAM BY: FLORDELINA B. UTLEG APRIL 21, 2017

Ms. Flordelina B. Utleg, the CTE and VJSSGS community extension coordinator and Ms. Maria Angelina Bacarra, the High School extension coordinator agreed that the literacy service will be conducted simultaneously in Brgy. Talingaan, Laoag City and in Brgy. Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte. Ms. Utleg was assigned in Caribquib while Ms. Bacarra is assigned in Talingaan, Laoag City.

The literacy service started on December 10, 2016 in Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte and ended on December 21, 2016 while in Talingaan, it was started on December 19, 2016 and ended on December 22, 2016. Ms. Bacarra also attended the first day of the literacy service in Caribquib and Ms. Utleg also attended the last day in Talingaan, Laoag City.

When the coordinators arrived at Caribquib Day Care Center, the beneficiaries were there already. Christian King R. Namnama, one of the pre-school children led the opening prayer and Ms. Hazel Jade Abian, student of CTE told him to render a vocal solo and he sang “Di Kita Iiwan”. She also asked some children to lead an action song for the group and the three (3) children went in front to lead. Ms. Utleg oriented the parents to guide their children in their school works and teach them also good values. She also told them to attend the literacy service because those who have perfect attendance, perfect post-test and perfect quiz will be given prizes during the culminating activity and deserving pupils will be awarded.

After the orientation, Ms. Utleg instructed the students to distribute the prepared learning kit and bring out the copy of the pre-test questions for the children. After the pre-test, the students immediately checked and wrote their scores.

After a short break, the students had their lecture on letters. Hazel Abian discussed the alphabet in a manner that the children were interested to answer. After the lecture, the students distributed their worksheets lesson on identifying letters, writing big and small letters, and writing the missing letters.

On December 19, 2016, Ms. Bacarra together with the students went to Brgy. Talingaan, Laoag City for the first day of the literacy service and Ms. Utleg proceeded to Caribquib for the continuation of the service.

During the second phase, Christian King Namnama, the most active pupil, led the opening prayer as well as the action song. Generose Duldulao and Princess Burigsay were the lecturers. Generose drew the different shapes on the board. After identifying the shapes, Generose and Princess showed visual aids for the lesson on identifying colors. Generose raised the visual aids one by one and the children told the color. They also gave name of fruits and other objects and asked their colors. After that, Hazel and Rodel instructed the children to bring out their crayons. They told them to pick-up and raise the crayon as fast as they can with the correct color that they asked. The children did their best and the first one who was able to raise the crayon with correct color was given a big, big clap with the words, “Very good.” Then after the lecture, they let them did their worksheets on shapes.

On the third phase, Sonia Cariaga and Rodel Dacoscos were the lecturers on identifying numbers. Sonia wrote the numbers on the board. She and Rodel asked all the children to read the numbers at the same time then asked the children to read one by one. After the lecture, they let them bring out their worksheets on identifying numbers- writing the number of objects, and counting how many times the shapes were drawn.

The students also required the pupils who incurred absences to answer their worksheets that they had missed during their vacant time.

During the activity, the faculty, staff, and students saw their effort and energy in assisting the children. They assisted and guided them enthusiastically with patience. The children were very attentive, smart, and very responsive also during the lectures and in doing their worksheets.

A post-test was given on the last phase. After the post-test, the faculty, staff and students conducted a simple Christmas/Culminating program and let the children play different games. The prizes for the Bring Me game were donated by Ms. Grace Alejandro, the community extension program coordinator. After the different games, the Awarding Ceremony was conducted. Ms. Utleg gave award for the children who had a perfect attendance, perfect post-test, and quiz and the other awards were awarded by the students. The ribbon for the Most Outstanding Pupil was pinned by Ms. Anabelle Pascual, the Day Care Teacher of Caribquib.

The prizes for the awardees were solicited by Juan Carlos Tabios III from Hon. Matthew Marcos Manotoc (school supplies) and Jean Kathrine Q. Macugay, the CTE alumna, gave pencils. For the gift giving, the VJSSGS-MAEd faculty and students gave tumblers and Ms. Utleg solicited grocery items and some pad papers for Grade 1 from Ildefonso U. Gonzales III, the President of the Student Supreme Council (SSC). All the solicited items were given to Caribquib, Banna and Talingaan, Laoag City during the culminating activity.

Before the end of the activity, Ms. Utleg delivered a Closing Message to the beneficiaries followed by some Words of Gratitude from Ms. Anabel Pascual. Ms. Pascual was very grateful for the Literacy Program. She thanked Northwestern University for the literacy outreach program and told that this kind of activity helped a lot for it was another kind of exposure of the children on how to deal with other people. The children were able to develop different good values. She then requested if it is possible for it to become a continuous activity in their barangay. She also requested that their day care center be painted just like what they did in the stage of the barangay hall. Said requests were noted by Ms. Alejandro.

The group from Northwestern was so happy because everybody felt contentment and success in their hearts for they did their best during the Literacy Program.

SEMINAR ON FILING OF DOCUMENTS BY: FLORDELINA B. UTLEG APRIL 21, 2017

Ms. Flordelina B. Utleg, the CTE and VJSSGS community extension coordinator headed the group for the seminar on filing of documents and they left the university at 8:00 in the morning. The beneficiaries were already at the venue for the seminar when the group arrived. Ms. Maria Angelina Bacarra, the High School extension coordinator and the students helped Ms. Utleg distribute the seminar kit to the participants.

Ms. Utleg was the lecturer and she discussed about filing; the importance of filing; Why should organizations have a good filing system; What do we file?; When do we file?; Equipment used for filing; What files are used and how are they used?; Methods of filing, Maintaining the filing system; and Good housekeeping and safety. The participants were very attentive. During the lecture, the lecturer showed the example of Filing Key, File-out Form, and File-out Card. She asked Ms. Enriqueta Gaygay, the secretary of the barangay, about the names of the documents she is filing. Ms. Gaygay enumerated: minutes of regular session, minutes of general assembly, monthly transmittal report, different standing committees, committee reports, committee hearings, ordinances, resolutions, tanod files, annual budget, BHW files, barangay cases, and loans. Ms. Utleg told them to file immediately the documents that they received and the copy of the receiving copy of documents. Furthermore, she told that the File-out Form must have column for the name file/borrower, document, date taken out, signature of the borrower and the date returned while the File-out Card, there must be also a column for out name, file, date taken out, date returned, and remarks. Old/inactive files must be placed in the archive files. The lecturer told them also that all their activities must be documented. During the workshop, Ms. Gaygay brought out all their documents and she sorted out. She put together the documents with the same title. Ms. Juanita Arellano, the treasurer of the barangay and Kagawad John Gaspar sorted out the forms of approved loans and copies of issued Certification. Ms. Utleg told them to arrange according to sitio. There were four sitios of the barangay namely: Sitio 1-Saranay; Sitio 2-Salacnib; Sitio 3- Sadiri and Sitio 4- Timpuyog. They used pink folders for the forms of loans as their color coding.

Kagawad Marlo Gombio cut the encoded label for the folder. Ms. Bacarra and the students pasted the cut out labels in the folders. Ms. Utleg told them that they will use the code – CAR followed by a number. CAR represents the three (3) first letters of CARIBQUIB. Ms. Grace Alejandro, the extension program coordinator on Social Development printed the File-Out Card.

Ms. Utleg told the beneficiaries that since they have few documents yet unlike the university, the folders must be kept inside the file boxes so that this can be easily accessed when the documents are needed. Ms. Utleg and Ms. Bacarra arranged the file boxes in the steel cabinet. The four (4) file boxes were given by John Sinang, the VJSSGS-MAEd student. The Filing Key was pasted at the side of the steel cabinet by the barangay secretary.
