CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, April 4 (PIA) -- Member-agencies of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Region 10 (RDRRMC-10) converged here on April 3 to discuss their first quarter accomplishments and the programs to be implemented in the succeeding months.

Regional Director Rosauro Arnel Gonzales Jr. of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD-10) disclosed that no untoward incidents were reported during the observance of the Holy Week in the region and he attributed it to the preparedness measures employed by all concerned agencies.

Dr. Dave Mendoza of the Department of Health (DOH-10), on the other hand, encouraged the council members to support DOH’s immunization program to protect the public against diseases like measles.

Mendoza said the measles cases recorded in the region from Jan. 1 to April 2, 2018 totaled 199, broken down as follows: Cagayan de Oro City-42; Iligan City-36; Balo-i, Lanao del Norte- 24; Maigo, Lanao del Norte-23; Ozamis City-18; Tubod, Lanao del Norte-14; Medina, Misamis Oriental-12; Salay, Misamis Oriental-10; Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte-10; and Baroy, Lanao del Norte-10.

He also warned the public against summer diseases such as typhoid, cholera and hepatitis A, diarrhea, sore eyes as well as mosquito-borne illnesses.

For its part, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office (DSWD-10) reported that it had already shelled out P44,741,546 for food and non-food items for internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by the Marawi crisis.

Presently, DSWD-10 is catering to IDPs both home-based and those in evacuation centers comprised of around 24,268 families.

Marawi residents fled their homes when government forces clashed with the ISIS-inspired Maute group almost a year ago.
