MANILA, Philippines - Some 204 congressmen crossed party lines in signing a resolution urging President Aquino to allow the burial of the remains of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani.
Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala did more than barnstorming Ilocos Norte by hearing out farmers’ woes and delivering more than P6 million in agriculture support for the province’s farming sector.

Sorsogon Rep. Salvador Escudero led the lawmakers in signing the resolution, saying he would gather at least 220 signatures from the 284-strong House of Representatives before formally filing it for approval in plenary.
Alcala made a quick visit to this province today but he made sure he heard the concerns of Ilocos Norte’s farming sector during the farmers’ forum held at the Teatro Ilocandia at the Mariano Marcos State University.

“I and all of those who signed the resolution, as well as millions of Filipinos, want us to move on,” Escudero said.
Farmers raised various concerns from marketability of their farm products, high cost of farm production and the cancellation of oil subsidy for farmers.

He said President Aquino was in favor of the resolution and even asked members of the majority bloc in the House for support.
Alcala said Ilocos Norte will continue to receive support from the Aquino administration to improve the province’s agriculture sector.

Escudero served as agriculture minister during the Marcos regime.
He said the pantawid pasada assistance was canceled due to issues of ownership of farm tractors that were being utilized by ordinary farm tillers.
“Who owns the tractors….. but the rich landlords. The oil subsidy will not go directly to farm tillers because they do not own tractors,” he said.

Among those who signed the resolution were Marcos widow Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos, Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Sorsogon Rep. Deogracias Ramos, Cagayan Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, Pampanga Rep. Anna York Bondoc, Laguna Rep. Justin Chipeco, Valenzuela Rep. Rex Gatchalian, Lanao del Norte Rep. Fatima Dimaporo, Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla, Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez, DIWA party-list Rep. Emmeline Aglipay, Manila Rep. Zenaida Angping, Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo Benitez, Bacolod Rep. Anthony Golez, San Juan Rep. Joseph Victor Ejercito, and Ang Kasangga party-list Rep. Teodorico Haresco.
Alcala said the government is studying other alternatives to provide cash support to farmers to replace the pantawid pasada program.

“Without denigrating the achievement of the leaders and officials that emerged after (1986) EDSA People Power Revolution, it can never be gainsaid that Ferdinand Marcos gave invaluable service to his country as soldier, writer, statesman and commander-in-chief,” the resolution read.
As initial grants, the Laoag city government received some P825,000 to establish a cold storage facility while farmers of Bacarra town will soon have its bagsakan area for farm products with the release of P4 million. On the other hand, onion producers will have their onion drying facility with the release of P1.3 million.

Alcala said other projects intended for the province include an irrigation dam and fish cages which are set for implementation before the year ends.

He also assured farmers of their products’ marketability by helping them identify direct buyers from abroad instead of relying on middle men to trade their crops. (ANL/CCA-PIA 1 Ilocos Norte)

Province of Ilocos Norte - Archived News

Wars of ancient history were about possessions, territory, power, control, family, betrayal, lover's quarrel, politics and sometimes religion.

But we are in the Modern era and supposedly more educated and enlightened .

Think about this. Don't just brush off these questions.

  • Why is RELIGION still involved in WARS? Isn't religion supposed to be about PEACE?
  • Ask yourself; What religion always campaign to have its religious laws be accepted as government laws, always involved in wars and consistently causing WARS, yet insists that it's a religion of peace?

WHY??

There are only two kinds of people who teach tolerance:
  1. The Bullies. They want you to tolerate them so they can continue to maliciously deprive you. Do not believe these bullies teaching tolerance, saying that it’s the path to prevent hatred and prejudice.
  2. The victims who are waiting for the right moment to retaliate. They can’t win yet, so they tolerate.

LAOAG CITY, March 16 — The Iron-fortified Rice or I-rice in the province was boosted with the signing of a Declaration of Commitment by members of various sectors and government agencies endorsing and supporting the product.

This was made during the formal launching of I-rice in Ilocos Norte on Tuesday, which was kicked off by a motorcade conducted by the National Food Authority (NFA) that made rounds of the province.

NFA provincial manager Alexander Galvez and assistant manager Tirso Mendoza led in the launching during a program attended by members of the Provincial Farmers Action Council, millers, retailers, consumers, and representatives of various government agencies.

I-rice is the latest and most nutritious rice being marketed by NFA. Rich in iron, one sack of rich is mixed with 250 grams of rice grains enriched with iron granules.

Ferdinand Macusi, NFA's senior grains operations officer, called on the public to eat I-rice as it could prevent anemia and infection, sharpen the mind, make the body vibrant, strong and resistant to diseases.

A Department of Science and Technology (DOST) study showed that iron deficiency is the most common form of malnutrition in the Philippines.

Iron deficiency is most often found among infants or children from one to five years old, pregnant women and lactating mothers.

NFA provincial manager Galvez said that I-rice can be bought from all NFA retailers at an affordable price of P27 per kilo. (PNA)
