About Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte
Location and Access
Liloy is a coastal municipality in the northeastern part of the province of Zamboanga del Norte. It faces the Sulu Sea and serves as one of the more accessible northern municipalities in the province. The nearest practical access to air travel is through Dipolog Airport, located in the City of Dipolog. Travelers from the airport typically proceed by land transport toward Liloy. Land access is mainly via the national highway, with buses and public utility vehicles providing regular routes to and from neighboring municipalities.
Location of Municipality Hall
The Municipal Hall of Liloy is located in Barangay Baybay (Pob.), which serves as one of the central barangays of the municipality and a focal point for administrative and commercial activities.
Economy of Liloy
The economy of Liloy is driven primarily by agriculture, coastal fishing, and small-to-medium scale commerce. Common agricultural products include coconut, corn, root crops, and various fruits. Fishing plays a role in seaside barangays such as Barangay Punta and others situated along the shoreline. The municipal center hosts market activity supported by local traders, transport operators, and retail businesses.
Natural Resources and Rivers
Liloy has fertile agricultural lands and access to coastal resources from the Sulu Sea. Several barangays benefit from lowland farming areas, while coastal barangays support sea-based livelihoods. Rivers and streams in the area provide supplemental irrigation for farms, although many waterways are small and unnamed. Natural vegetation, coconut plantations, and open lands characterize the interior barangays.
Power, Water, and Utilities
Electricity in Liloy is generally supplied through the provincial power grid serving Zamboanga del Norte. Water service varies by barangay; many households rely on community-managed water systems, deep wells, or shared sources. Mobile communication networks operate within the municipality, and most populated areas have access to basic telecommunications and internet services. Utilities may differ between urban and rural barangays.
Banking, Commerce, and Health Services
Liloy serves as a commercial point for nearby municipalities, with a public market located near the poblacion area. Commerce includes sari-sari stores, small retail shops, agricultural supply outlets, and service establishments. Banking services are limited; residents often depend on commercial banks in larger nearby towns or cities when necessary. Health needs are supported by a municipal health office and barangay health stations. For advanced medical care, residents may travel to larger facilities in Dipolog City or other major centers.
Education in Liloy
Most barangays in Liloy have elementary schools that serve local students. High schools are distributed across key barangays including rural and central areas. Secondary schools can be found in barangays such as Ganase, New Bethlehem, and other populated areas. There are no major colleges or universities within Liloy, so students commonly pursue tertiary education in Dipolog City or other neighboring urban centers.
Local Transportation
Local transportation in Liloy typically consists of tricycles, motorcycles (habal-habal), and multicabs. These are widely used for travel within and between barangays. Jeepneys remain an important means of transportation along main routes, especially for residents traveling to neighboring municipalities. Pedicabs are sometimes used in the poblacion area for short-distance trips. There are no taxicabs operating in the municipality, and transportation patterns reflect those commonly seen in rural towns of the region.

I am thinking of visiting your city. But, I have a friend who tells me that the internet and phone signals are almost impossible to get and the only time she can send me texts …. no pictures or videos …. is when she is “near the terminal”. And, when she leaves the city to go to her barangay, she has no signal. I think I am being “misled”. She also told me there are no hotels there?!?!? Thoughts.
