About Damulog, Bukidnon
Damulog is a municipality in southern Bukidnon, officially founded on August 16, 1971. Known as the “Gateway to Bukidnon,” it lies along the provincial boundary with Cotabato and serves as a vital junction for travelers entering Northern Mindanao.
Historically, the area was first settled by the Manobo people, who called it Ramulog, meaning “a place to take a bath,” referring to the river where families gathered to bathe, fish, and wash clothes. Over time, the name evolved into Damulog as settlers from Cotabato and other parts of Mindanao arrived. The opening of the Sayre Highway in 1953 transformed Damulog into a trading hub, connecting its agricultural products to larger markets in Cagayan de Oro and Cotabato.
Culturally, Damulog reflects a blend of indigenous Manobo traditions and influences from migrant communities. The municipality celebrates fiestas and religious events that highlight its diverse heritage, while its identity as the “Passway to Northern Mindanao” underscores its role as both a cultural and economic link between Bukidnon and Cotabato.
Today, Damulog is recognized for its fertile lands, sustained by the Pulangi River system, and its strong agricultural base. Its cultural identity remains rooted in the resilience of its indigenous heritage and the dynamism of its settlers, making it both a historical and practical gateway to Bukidnon.
