Rocking chair therapy

Kids love it. Old folks love it. There’s something about a rocking chair that brings instant relaxation.

My son gave this old rocker to my wife, but somehow I ended up claiming it for myself. He said it was broken, so I fixed it. Now it sits proudly in our living room, ready to welcome anyone who visits.

Most mornings, you’ll find me there with a cup of coffee in hand, gazing out the window at the old blue spruce (cypress) tree. I watch the birds flit from branch to branch, feeling my back straighten as I rock gently, turning from side to side.

I can’t point to any scientific study on the therapeutic powers of a rocking chair. All I know is—it works for me.

I’d love to hear your stories. What does your old rocking chair mean to you? Share them in the comments below.
