DAVAO CITY – Sarangani town in Davao Occidental experienced a tremor of significant force when a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck on Wednesday evening, as reported by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The quake’s origin was traced to a point 66 km southeast of Sarangani Island in the Davao Occidental region. Occurring approximately at 7:21 p.m., the tectonic disturbance had a depth of 139 km.
The tremor’s effects varied in intensity across regions. Notably, Sarangani town, Don Marcelino in Davao Occidental, Kiamba, Malungon in Sarangani, and Digos City in Davao del Sur experienced an Intensity V shake.
Meanwhile, surrounding areas including General Santos City, Koronadal, Tupi, T’Boli, Polomolok in South Cotabato, Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental, and both Palimbang and Esperanza in Sultan Kudarat felt the jolt at an Intensity IV level.
Lesser impacts, classified as Intensity III, were recorded in Davao City and various other regions such as Alamada, Banisilan, and the City of Kidapawan in Cotabato, among others in Sultan Kudarat and South Cotabato.
