Enchanted being

When I was a young boy, about 9 years old, I always visited my Lolos and Tios at Tia Adriana’s sari sari store where they drink Tuba. They told me a story once about the magic pearl inside the heart of a banana flower. It supposedly grants the possessor super powers. This magic pearl would fall to the ground once the banana flower would open. But it only drops on moonless nights. They told me that as soon as it darkens put a black sheet of cloth below the banana flower so when this magic pearl drops I can see it because it shines in the dark.

But they warned me that there are enchanted beings that guard the pearl. That they will wrestle me. Just do not let go of the pearl because they can’t harm me anyway. They will only try to scare me.

When night fell and it was a new moon, not even 7pm, I was already there at the banana grove. I placed the black blanket by the banana trunk right below the new banana flower that hasn’t opened yet.

I was there sitting and waiting and waiting. I got sleepy and fell asleep, I woke up when my mother shook me. It was about 10pm. No wrestling that night. The Tumaga boy got a big scolding again.

Cuando bata yo, maga 9 años,  firme yo ta visita y ta man junto con el maga tio y lolo de mio alla na tienda de Tia Adriana mientras ta toma sila Tuba. Pero ya alarma sila conmigo kay tiene daw maga encanto guardia del perla. Ay lucha daw sos conmigo. No lang daw yo larga con el perla kay no puede man daw aquellos hace daño conmigo. Ta hace lang miedo.

Cuando ya llega el nuevo luna, No hay pa alas siete del noche, talla ya yo na saguigan. Ya pone yo con el manta negro abajo del pono del saguing con nuevo puso que no hay pa abri.

Talla yo sintao ta espera que espera. Ya gana el sueño, ya desperta yo kay de mi nana ya hace uyuk conmigo. Maga alas 10 del noche ya. No hay sucede el lucha ese noche. Grande regaño ya tamen con el Tumaga Boy.
