ZAMBOANGA CITY--The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Friday released PHP900,000 worth of livelihood starter kits for tailoring benefitting the Zamboanga Association of Skilled and Trained Inmates (ZASTI) of the Zamboanga City Jail (ZCJ).
DOLE's livelihood starter kits consist of 13 units sewing machines complete with accessories, according to Chief Insp. Nathaniel Aljas, ZCJ warden.
Aljas said the beneficiary-association has 88 members who are ZCJ inmates or Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).
ZASTI proposed the livelihood project in 2016, in which the association will cater to the clothing needs of the PDLs, including the uniforms, as well as other products.
DOLE-9 Director Ofelia Domingo said she was surprised by the sewing skills of the inmate-beneficiaries, who are all males.
Domingo said they will also assist in marketing ZASTI's products.
