The earliest inhabitants of Lourdes wee the “Gali” or the Bukidnons. This was so because; Barangay Lourdes was a Municipal district of Bukidnon under the cultural minorities. When the Christians came, these minorities moved to a place near Barangay Sampatulog. When the Christians still followed them there, they moved again to Ugnas, the original name Lourdes. When they were settled in Ugnas, Christias came and inter-mingled with them and this time the first baptism for Bukidnons was done. Among those baptized, only one girl included and she was named Lourdes. From that time on, the minorities named the place LOURDES in honor of the girl. Thus, the original name of the place which was UGNAS was replaced by a more Christian name LOURDES. | |||
