Hidden behind the breath-taking rolling landscape of Zamboanga Sibugay lies a beautiful town whose place was named after their description of a small waterfall. Eventually, the place which was called “Kulaka” in the 20th century, a Subanen term for paddling, became known as “Malangas”. In July 23, 1951, by virtue of R.A. 654 Malangas officially became a municipality. Malangas is a town that is also blessed abundantly by Mother Nature. Panoramic attractions are available for travelers and tourists to visit. There are places to sit back and relax at the Overlooking Site of Western Malangas State University (WMSU) Campus and the Bunker Cottages at the Poblacion. Additional attractions are the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC). | |||
Mining Corporation at Barangay La Dicha and its dump site at Barangay Poblacion. An added fare is the newly constructed Municipal Building at Barangay Candiis, and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) at Barangay Poblacion. Those who want to enjoy the luxury that one could get from the fantastic beaches along the coast of Malangas may visit the breath-taking white sand beaches at Barangay Kigay and the Muyong islets. The hospitable people of the town make a living through mining, fishing, and farming. The wet market is a regular venue of the “tabo-tabo” that promises very practical purchases for all commodities. | |||
Meanwhile, “Araw Ng Malangas” is a much awaited event that the community looks forward to on the 23rd of July. They also take much pride in their localized version of the Sinulog Festival on the last Saturday of January. | |||
