A shallow, tectonic magnitude-4.8 earthquake rocked the northern province of Batanes Sunday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. | |||
The tremor, which occurred at 1:34 p.m. and originated 8 kilometers below the ground, was classified as moderately strong, with intensity 4 felt in Basco. It was generally felt by people indoors. | |||
Its epicenter was offshore, some 76 km south of Basco. There were no casualties or damage reported. Phivolcs said it was not expecting aftershocks. | |||
