The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is giving a new life to a 260-year old abandoned mansion that once served as the provincial seat of government of Lingayen, Pangasinan during Spanish occupation in the country.

“What was long been abandoned and devastated by World War II and typhoon “Cosme” in 2008 will soon be home of artifacts with significance to Pangasinan’s rich history and cultural heritages,” said DPWH Region 1 Director Danilo E. Dequito, pertaining to the historical Casa Real.

DPWH, in convergence with the Department of Tourism, has implemented restoration works worth P35 million for its first and second phase and will spend an additional P50 million for its third and final phase.

According to Dequito, DPWH has completed the Phase II of Casa Real’s rehabilitation project which covers concrete beam and slab, masonry walls, roofing system and ceiling works, electrical works including installation generator set and power house and office furniture.

DPWH has also installed high definition (HD) screen and audio system with closed-circuit television and plumbing works including cistern tank and fire sprinkler system to add security in the building which will soon be open to public as a museum.

Pangasinenses may expect the full restoration of this historical landmark with the completion of the third stage of its renovation.
