First in Asia and the Pacific

ANGELES CITY- The Asia Pacific Institute for Events Management (Apiem) has recently bestowed a Center of Excellence (COE) accreditation to the City College of Angeles (CCA) for its events management programs making it the first partner community college in the whole of Asia and the Pacific.

Apiem is a United Kingdom-based accrediting body that brings together events industry employers and education providers who are committed to establishing high quality courses for students and events professionals who want to develop their skills and abilities to work in the global events industry.

The global organization also provides consultancy services to universities, colleges and training providers throughout the Asia Pacific region that want to develop curricula that meet the needs of the events industry with global standards.

Last September 6, Apiem confirmed CCA’s international accreditation for the courses Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management and Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management with specialization in Mice (Meeting, Incentives, Conventions, Events) Tourism program.

The community college was also accorded by Apiem with the highest level of accreditation having been given a four-star categorization.

According to CCA President Richard Daenos, the college underwent stern auditing procedure prior to attaining the said stature. He also added that the administration included Mice as one of the school’s area of specialization in order to improve their curriculum.

“We added contextualization of how we can better the curriculum and that includes offering more courses in events management with the consideration of having the accreditation of Apiem”, he said.

CCA was also evaluated under Apiem’s rigorous standards for audit in the management and content of the curriculum, teaching and learning standards, resources and learning environment, and welfare and student services.

Various events were prepared to strengthen CCA’s bid for accreditation. The events stood as documentations of how evident CCA is in having Apiem’s qualifications, for instance, the “PAMISANMETUNG: A Special Tribute to the 50 Golden Years of the ASEAN50”.

CCA also inaugurated in its premises the newly-renovated Thomas Cook Travel Center, a multi-faceted space designed to contribute in the efficient and effective delivery of hospitality and tourism education and skill development program for the students.

For his part, Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, who is currently in New York City for the UN General Assembly on Habitat for Urban Development, lauded the CCA administration for its continuous dedication in delivering high quality but affordable education to the city’s indigent students.

"I am ecstatic that our city college was awarded with a four-star distinction by an international institution- a first in the whole of Asia Pacific. Our very own city college is making history," said Pamintuan

"Our government in accordance to our social contract, the Contract with the Angeleños (CWA), is doing its best to produce globally competitive students who are soon-to-be valued contributors of the community,” Pamintuan added.

Furthermore, CCA sees Apiem’s recognition as an inspiration to do more and to exhibit higher level of excellence. There are currently 246 students enrolled under the said globally-accredited programs.
