'Parada ng Dekada' climaxes Dagupan's Platinum Year

DAGUPAN CITY, June 20 -- A parade called "Parada ng Dekada" (Parade of the Decade) at 3:00 p.m. today culminated the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Dagupan which became a chartered city by virtue of Republic Act (RA) 170 authored in the House of Representatives by the late Speaker Eugenio Perez.
Mayor Belen Fernandez spearheaded "Parada ng Dekada", along with employees and officials of the city, students and members of various sectors of the society in Pangasinan.
It is non-working public holiday in Dagupan by virtue of a proclamation issued by Malacanang at the request of the city government.
It was on June 20, 1947 when RA 170 was signed into law by then President Manuel Roxas.
After the parade, participants were treated to a 30-minute fireworks display at the city plaza.
Main part of the celebration included the giving of Platinum Awards to "Pinablin Dagupan" who are sons and daughters of the city who excelled in various professions during the past many years, held Monday night at CSI Stadia.
The top award for the "Pinablin Dagupan" went to former five-time Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., named recently as special envoy by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Mayor Fernandez said the celebration of Dagupan's Platinum Year will continue with other meaningful activities up to the end of this year.
