Wars of ancient history were about possessions, territory, power, control, family, betrayal, lover's quarrel, politics and sometimes religion.

But we are in the Modern era and supposedly more educated and enlightened .

Think about this. Don't just brush off these questions.

  • Why is RELIGION still involved in WARS? Isn't religion supposed to be about PEACE?
  • Ask yourself; What religion always campaign to have its religious laws be accepted as government laws, always involved in wars and consistently causing WARS, yet insists that it's a religion of peace?

WHY??

There are only two kinds of people who teach tolerance:
  1. The Bullies. They want you to tolerate them so they can continue to maliciously deprive you. Do not believe these bullies teaching tolerance, saying that it’s the path to prevent hatred and prejudice.
  2. The victims who are waiting for the right moment to retaliate. They can’t win yet, so they tolerate.

By Teofilo Garcia, Jr (PNA)

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Police launched a manhunt to find four gunmen behind Monday’s highway robbery involving PHP7.6-million worth of jewelry and other valuables in Pagadian City, capital Zamboanga del Sur.

Chief Supt. Edwin de Ocampo, deputy regional director for administration of Police Regional Office 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), said Tuesday one of the four suspects, Jessie Macasilang alias Marines, was identified through a closed-circuit television camera video footage.

Macasilang and his cohorts carted away some PHP7.6-million worth of jewelry and other valuables from an ML Lhuiller branch in Barangay Tiguma, Pagadian City at about 8:21 a.m. Monday. ML Lhuiller operates a chain of pawnshops in the country.

Macasilang has two standing warrants of arrest for the crime of robbery issued by a Parañaque City court, the police official said.

Zamboanga del Sur vice mayor found guilty of appointing cousin as town treasurer

By JOSEPH TRISTAN ROXAS (KG, GMA News)

The Sandiganbayan has sentenced the vice mayor of Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur to six to eight years imprisonment for his alleged appointment of a relative as the municipal treasurer in 2006 during his mayoralty term.

In its decision dated June 22, the Sixth Division found Vice Mayor Allan Damas "guilty beyond reasonable doubt" for violation of Section 3(e) of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

Damas, when he was mayor, appointed Nellie Poliran Toledo as municipal treasurer. Toledo is his relative within the fourth civil degree of consanguinity.

He allegedly certified however that Toledo is not a relative, thus a violation of Section 79 of the Local Government Code which prohibits the appointment of persons who are related to the appointing authority within the fourth civil degree.

The Sandiganbayan said the prosecution succeeded in proving the family relations of Damas and Toledo, who turned out to be first cousins. It said Damas’ mother is the sibling of Toledo’s father.

Damas endorsed three applicants — Toledo, Claude Genetiano, and Elvie Unabia — to the Bureau of Local Government Finance for the post of municipal treasurer in an undated letter.

As recommending authority, he then issued a certification in favor of Toledo, even if he knew his cousin is disqualified to assume the position.

The Sandiganbayan said Damas would not be at fault if he was unaware of his relations with Toledo. The fact that they are cousins, however, is public knowledge in the municipality which negates the accused’s claim of good faith.

“The prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused, through his acts done with evident bad faith, gave unwarranted benefit, advantage or preference to Toledo by paving the way for her appointment to the position of Municipal Treasurer, despite being disqualified due to being the accused’s relative within the fourth civil degree of consanguinity,” it said.

Nandang will face 10 counts each of violation of Articles 217 or Malversation of Public Funds and 218 or Failure of Accountable Officer to Render Accounts of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) for the separate cash advances he took for travel expenses made from January 2011 to August 2011.

Nandang took the cash advances, which totaled P1,250,000, even though he failed to liquidate and account for the money.

The COA Circular 97-002 provides that cash advances for local travels must be liquidated within 30 days upon return to official station.

Meanwhile, Article 217 of the RPC states that malversation is committed by any public officer who, by reason of the duties of office, is accountable for public funds, and appropriates the same or takes or misappropriates public funds, wholly or partially.

On the other hand, violation of Article 218 of the RPC is committed by any public officer, whether in the service or separated therefrom, who is required by law or regulation to render account to the provincial auditor and who fails to do so for a period of two months after such accounts should be rendered.
