If you search the internet you would find numerous natural cures for gout. However, I didn’t come across this particular natural cure for gout that I am going to share with you here; screwpine. From my experience, I found that natural cures have a peculiar success rate. Certain people may find a particular treatment to be effective. But for others, for some strange reasons, this particular natural cure simply would not work for them. Maybe would it be that the different constituent make-up of different people responding differently to this natural cure? But then again, even medical "proven" methods do not work successfully on everyone either.
Natural cures for gout: What is gout?
Gout is a condition where there is an excess amount of uric acid in the body. Gout is a type of arthritis, or a form of rheumatic disease. Under normal conditions, the kidneys will be able to flush out the uric acid. Uric acid is formed when the body processes purine, a type of protein. Gout occurs when the excess uric acid accumulates in the joints and other tissues as crystals. Excess uric acid is caused by either the inability of the kidneys to flush it out and/or the body produces too much uric acid.
Over the years, the uric acid crystals will build up in the joints and the surrounding tissues forming large deposits called tophi which look like lumps under the skin especially near severely affected joints, fingers and toes. The most obvious symptoms are inflammation in the joints, and severe pain, especially in the evening. The other symptoms are loss of appetite, lack of sleep, presence of kidney stones, and even possible kidney failure.
Gout usually occurs in males over 40 years, and females following menopause. The pain usually comes in a sudden and may last for several days.
Natural cures for gout : Causes
Unhealthy diet is the main culprit. Alcohol consumption, especially wine and beer, and intake of food with high purine, especially seafood like crabs, prawns, squids, fish roe, shellfish, and animal and fish innards. Red meat especially mutton should be avoided. Peas and beans should also be avoided. However, it is also found that gout may be due to genetics and is hereditary. If you are overweight and are not exercising, you will be in danger of having gout.
Conventional gout treatment
There is apparently no permanent cure for gout. Medical treatment is by administering high doses of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen . Other common drugs being used are colchicine and allopurinal or probenecid.
Gout is a progressive ailment. If not treated properly, the painful attacks will become more severe and more frequent over time.

:• What is screwpine
A little description on screwpine for those not familiar. Readers from temperate countries may not be familiar with this tropical plant. You can see the photo on top of this article. It was taken in my garden. Screwpine has very fragrant leaves. It is very easily grown in tropical countries. It is an essential cooking ingredient in Southeast Asian countries of Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Indo-China. It is known in various names. In Malaysia and Indonesia, it is called Pandan.
This plant has been found to contain several kinds of flavonoids which have anti-oxidant, anti-viral, anti-allergen, anti-platelet and anti-inflammatory properties. Flavonoids help to maintain healthy blood vessels and connective tissues. Flavonoids are also called bioflavonoids
