KORONADAL CITY, Oct 25 (PIA) -- South Cotabato’s provincial government will soon have a desk where Muslim residents in the province can refer their concerns. | |||
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan yesterday approved a resolution requesting Gov. Arthur Y. Pingoy Jr. to create a Muslim Affairs Desk at the Provincial Social Welfare Office (PSWDO). | |||
Board Member Jose Madanguit, chairman of the committee on human rights, Muslim affairs and cultural communities said that they pushed for the creation of Muslim affairs desk to hasten the provincial government’s response to concerns and issues affecting the Muslim communities in the province. | |||
“The desk is equivalent to our Provincial Tribal Council,” Madanguit said. “It is about time that we also provide our Muslim brothers a representation in the provincial government where they can present their concerns and related purposes.” | |||
“With a desk specifically looking into the affairs concerning the Muslim communities, the provincial government will be able to immediately address problems affecting them.” | |||
The resolution was of a unanimous sponsorship. | |||
Madanguit said the resolution was borne out of several meetings with Muslim leaders in the 10 municipalities and lone city. | |||
The idea for the creation of a Muslim affairs desk in the provincial government was first suggested by Vice Governor Elmo Tolosa, he added. (PIA 12) | |||
