ANGELES CITY -- The Peace and Order Council (POC) in this city has banned the sale and distribution of firecrackers for health and safety reason.

This was gleaned in a resolution unanimously approved during the City Council’s regular quarterly meeting at the office of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan last Monday.

The POC members voted for a complete ban on firecrackers in compliance with the directive of President Duterte.

“Because of this resolution, the selling and distribution of firecrackers within the City of Angeles is henceforth prohibited. The Business Permit and Licensing Division (BPLD) will not process any application,” Pamintuan said.

“Individuals may still celebrate the coming New Year with the legally allowed pyrotechnics and other noise-making devices such as horns, sirens and the like but all form of firecrackers are no longer allowed in this city,” he added.

The city mayor disclosed that he will send requests to malls and big hotels in the city to conduct their fireworks displays during the New Year revelry.

“Many malls and establishments have fireworks displays for this holiday season. The general public may watch them from their homes or join the revelry,” Pamintuan said.

“The important thing is that we can celebrate the changing of the years with the health and safety of our constituents as the primordial consideration,” the mayor added.
