Agents of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) have arrested four South Korean fugitives wanted by authorities for various crimes.
Immigration Spokesperson Dana Krizia Sandoval said the four Koreans were apprehended in separate operations conducted last Tuesday and Wednesday by operatives from the bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU) in Pampanga, Makati, and Cavite.
They are now at the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings.
Arrested Wednesday in Angeles City was 43-year-old Eum Ki Tae, who is wanted in his country for fraud for allegedly swindling a compatriot of more than 43 million won.
His passport has been revoked by the Korean government last year, making him an undocumented alien.
Arrested the same day at his condominium unit in Makati City was 33-year-old Lee Sangmin who is wanted by the Philippine National Police’s anti-kidnapping group for his alleged involvement in the abduction of a fellow Korean, Han Jongwook.
Last Tuesday, FSU operatives arrested in Tanza, Cavite 58-year-old Kim Yoonyoung who has an outstanding arrest warrant for alleged illegal entry of residence.
He is also an undocumented alien as the Korean embassy cancelled his passport in 2014.
During the operations the FSU agents also discovered the presence of another Korean named Yoon Juong Yul, 60, who turned out to be another fugitive wanted for fraud for allegedly swindling 270,000,000 Won from a compatriot.
Ms. Sandoval said all except for Lee will be immediately deported to face their crimes in Korea.
She clarified that Lee will have to face his case in the Philippines, before being deported.
