The year 1572 saw the creation of a place called Pasig into a parish by the Calced Agustinians. At the same time of its creation, there were twelve (12) visitas attached to it: Angono, Bambang, Botin, Malinao, Mandarala, Maybonga, Palatiw, Polo, Pinagbuhatan, Sagad, San Nicolas and Tipas. During that period, a parish was equated with a town. Bambang could be said to have been formed almost simultaneously with the birth of Pasig.
The name “BAMBANG” was given to the barrio by the Spanish missionaries. One day, while several men were working in the barrio, some Spanish missionaries passed by and asked the men what the name of the place was. Not knowing what the Spaniards were asking, they answered, “Nagbabambang ho kami” which literally means “We are digging gutters.” Upon hearing this, the Spaniards repeated the words and called the palace “Bambang” from then on.
